West Wing Series 7

So who's watching and and what do you think?

I'm a bit disappointed, there isn't enough White House stuff and too much on the campaign trail. I think that although at the end of the last season I liked both Santos and Vinnick, there is too much of them so far in this.

Vinnick has started being painted as a bit of a baddie after last weeks episode, but I don't feel that bothered about the election as I know that I won't be seeing the winner in the White House.

Santos new advisor Lou is just a watered down Amy, and I don't feel that involved with any of the campaign staff.

What about the leak? Where are Leo, Jed, Charlie, CJ and the rest?

Hiya... I'm off out tonight, but offered to drive so will avoid what happened to you! How old is your ds?

My dh said immediately that he bets Sam's fiancee is the hooker from the first series. He said she was a lawyer.

I think Donna's worth more than adviser to Helen - bit of a ticket to nowhere IMO. She'd be a good Press Secretary. But it would be difficult working for Josh, she's right about that.

I am in Ossett, between Dewsbury and Wakefield.

tribpot · 17/07/2006 10:14

Well, Amy was the First Lady's Chief of Staff for a while (still may be as I don't think it's ever been mentioned whether she works in the White House any more) so it must be a reasonably good job!

You're not far away at all, Ellbell! Tis a small world.

Ellbell · 17/07/2006 12:42

Watched bits of it again last night while tidying up. It WAS very odd when Josh said to Sam that he wanted Sam to be 'your me to my Leo' and yet neither of them made any comment on Leo's death. Also, Sam has turned into a terrible po-faced prig. What has happened to his sense of fun? And when he said 'big fan' to Santos at the end, was it meant to sound shallow and insincere...? Because it sure as hell came over like that.

I thought Amy only did the Chief of Staff to the 1st Lady job for a little while and then resigned over something which I now forget. Will have to re-watch. Can't remember when exactly she did it - was it before she was working for one of the other candidates during the early stages of Bartlet's campaign for re-election? Or am I totally confused?

Charlie is notable by his absence at the moment, too. Is it feasible that Josh wouldn't want to find a job for him?

Do you think that Will and Kate's relationship is dead in the water since she confessed to being a Republican? Perhaps the scriptwriters brought that in to make a swift end to it, as they realised that the whole thing was making viewers feel slightly sick!?

tribpot · 17/07/2006 13:18

Oh yes, she was working for Stackhouse or someone similar - I think there must be various Stackhouses given the original is the one who spoke on the Senate floor for about 13 hours despite being 102 or summat!

I think Charlie wants to go with CJ wherever she ends up (presumably not the part about marrying Danny and bearing his child!).

I just don't get how it's meant to be realistic that Sam didn't attend Leo's funeral or even mention a good reason why not. I hate it in telly series when, as soon as a person leaves/dies everyone pretends as if they never existed because the producers don't want to make it difficult for new viewers. I can't imagine that at this stage of the final series that was really a consideration!

Ellbell · 17/07/2006 19:52

LOL... Charlie will have to train as a midwife .

'The Stackhouse Filibuster' is another great episode.

AnelaSunshine · 18/07/2006 11:28

Hello I'm new here but have been lurking.

I wanted to join in and agree with you about the spelling of Zoey's name. How cool Ainsley was (wish they would bring her back properly) and how sad I am that it's going to be ending. I can't bear it.

My favourite episode is probably In This White House but mainly cos i'm a huge Sam fan. But I have lots of favourite moments too.

A friend has asked me out to dinner on Friday and I don't want to go as I'd much rather be at home with More4 and dp.

Anyway hello. WW rocks.

Ellbell · 18/07/2006 19:46

Hi AnelaSunshine

So did you think Sam had gone a bitpo-faced in this last episode?

You know it's also on at 8 p.m. Sunday, don't you (and assorted times in the middle of the night!)?

tribpot · 21/07/2006 09:09

Hi AnelaSunshine! Welcome to the WW thread. We are planning a rewatch from the beginning of Series 1 when this series comes to an end so fear not!

Just finished watching Shibboleth, two hilarious lines from the Pres. First, CJ asks him to pardon another turkey and he says "aren't you worried it'll look like I'm soft on turkeys?" and then she says..
CJ: They send me two turkeys, the more photofriendly of the two gets a full life in a children's petting zoo. The runner-up gets eaten.
PRES: If the Oscars were like that, I'd watch.

And all this straight after the Pres has given Charlie his heirloom carving knife made for his family by Paul Revere . Real emotion so deftly handled.

Ellbell · 21/07/2006 14:56

Tribpot... how many more episodes to go, do you know? We're moving house next Friday (but will have telly hooked back up by Sunday, so can watch the repeat, lol!) Don't want to miss anything at this stage.

PS Don't know if anyone has seen my other thread, but my video set of series 1 is still going begging if anyone wants it. (Free... just CAT me with an address before I pack it!)

tribpot · 21/07/2006 17:09

Three, I think, Ellbell. Don't worry if your house move doesn't go quite according to plan, I have them all recorded on hard disk (Incidentally, am I alone in understanding that telly progs do not have to be watched when they are on, you can record them to watch at your convenience?!)

beckybrastraps · 21/07/2006 17:14

Now I never watched it when Sam was in it. I am a late convert. Everyone raves about him, but last week he seemed....odd. And smug.

Ellbell · 21/07/2006 19:00

But on Friday night I'll be lucky if I've got a bed to sleep in, let alone a TV AND video AND Freeview box all plugged in! [stressed-out over move emoticon]

Ellbell · 21/07/2006 19:02

PS Beckybrastraps... yes, smug. But he wasn't like that before.

Now, have a look at my other thread. Do you want series 1 on video...? Speak now, or it'll be in a box and who knows when I'll find it again... I don't want anything for it - will post it to you.

tribpot · 21/07/2006 19:34

Becky ... take up this offer - please! You will never regret it (Unless you don't have a video recorder, in which case you probably will).

Ellbell - I wasn't speaking of having all your TV equipment set up after 2 days, but didn't you once leg it back up the A1 to watch it (only to find dp had recorded it for you) and AnelaSunshine is saying she doesn't want to go out ... actually for the early series I can imagine not wanting to miss it even if you could watch it later. This stuff .. not so much.

Anyway, hope the move goes okay, and I will definitely have the episode recorded so can send you a DVD if need be. I think you asked how old ds is - 13 months tomorrow!

Ellbell · 21/07/2006 22:39

Ha ha... you have a good memory! Yes, legged it up the A1 because the previous time I had been away dh failed abysmally to work the video recorder! Almost a divorceable offence, methinks!

Congrats on your ds's 13 month-th birthday (as my dds would say). (Was trying to work out how long it had been since you went out...!)

So... you were nearly right about Vinick, then!

sis · 22/07/2006 20:20

My Guardian guide tells me that this coming Friday will have the final two episodes which will start at 9.30pm instead of the usual 9pm. Although at 9pm there is some West Wing related quiz type show on.

Did anyone else think it odd that in last night's episode it seemed important to Santos that the school his kids may go to had a low percentage of free school meals kids?! I was a bit disappointed - yes, I only it is only TV, but still.

AnelaSunshine · 24/07/2006 08:37

I can't believe there's only one Friday worth left. There is a mega More4 marathon of West Wing loveliness all this weekend but still.

In answer to your question, even though I am HUGE Seabornista I did think he was quite annoying in last week's episode.

I am also struggling to believe that Santos would make that decision (about Vinneck) without consulting his Deputy Chief of Staff since Josh is clearly on Love Island with Donna.

I was watching Top Gear last night and I heard Clarkson using the old Lymanism 'victory is mine'
so he must watch too!

Anyway, have been off computer for a few days but wanted to post again.

lionheart · 24/07/2006 22:10

I am so upset because I've watched every single episode of The West Wing and have all the DVDs but I have only JUST NOW realised that they are showing the latest, LAST series on MORE4. I thought they were showing re-runs and the new series wasn't out until the Autumn.

Is there really only one left?

Bugger.

Ellbell · 24/07/2006 22:19

Awww, lionheart... Where have you been all this thread? Will be out on DVD soon, though!

lionheart · 24/07/2006 22:24

I've been grappling with flipping footnotes and wotnots all Summer.

So, I suppose if I had noticed it was on it would have been another distraction to add to the one provided by Mumsnet.

lionheart · 24/07/2006 22:48

I'd better get over to amazon (my answer to everything) and pre-order it then, Ellbell.

Ellbell · 25/07/2006 00:20

I knew I'd been talking to you about something recently, lionheart, and couldn't remember what. Of course, it was footnotes! This series has been running for ages, though (OP on this thread is March) so you have no excuse.

Get thee hence to Amazon.com forthwith! (Do you want to join those of us doing a re-watch from series 1?)

lionheart · 25/07/2006 00:24

What's the re-watching business, sounds like it could be good displacement activity?

In which case, yes please.

Ellbell · 25/07/2006 20:19

Read further down this thread. The idea was to re-watch the whole WW, starting from series 1, to a schedule (no bingeing on the whole of series 1 in one sitting...) and then come and discuss it on here!

lionheart · 25/07/2006 21:34

Ellbell: is this rewatch planned for when the last series finishes? Or has it started already?

(I have read down but I had to kind of squint at the thread for fear of spoilers relating to the latest series [sigh].

Sounds like a very good idea.
