Just typed out a very excitable post only to find the previous thread, on which I was an avid lurker, had exceeded it's capacity. So if you don't mind, I'll start the overflow thread in the lead up to the Grand Final.

Yeah they gorgeous those macaroons. My sister in law bought me some once for my birthday. She lives near London and knew I wanted to try them so she got me some. I think she went to Harrods to get them as well so it was extra special! Never had anything from Harrods before!

James' Dad has a programme on BBC Radio Scotland. So for all who have big girlie crushes on James, this is what he will look like in 30 years time or so. I think he looks like a wise Victorian lighthouse keeper.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 11/10/2012 14:17

Hi pp Ah, Paul. We have stopped at those on our travels across France. Only in France would you get a fab bakery at services. Have you had the croissant with frangipane filling from there?

I still love a good tarte tatin. I have never had a macaroon, but want one.

GBB is such a good prog to chill in front of. It's a shame Mel and Sue don't do anything else on tv together. I miss Light Lunch, pummels awful Loose Women into the ground. I think James is Sue's favourite.

Cheers squoosh! he's not bad at all actually! (nearer my age group Blush)

PostBellumBugsy · 11/10/2012 14:31

I'm really going to miss it when it's over too. It cuts across all generations, as DD, me & my mum all love it!

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2012 14:46

hello little Oh please don't mention those almond croissants they are FANTASTIC or they were when I used to eat them ! Can you imagine how hard it is to live here and be off wheat ??!!!! Shock

ouryve · 11/10/2012 14:46

Agreeing - DS1 loves it - though Danny wouldn't be pleased to know that he cheered when she was eliminated.Blush

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2012 14:47

I should try and make them with spelt flour but the work involved is amazing and the BUTTER!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/10/2012 15:26

Cuts across the generations here too from 6 year old DD to 75 year old DM. My DCs were so impressed with the gingerbread houses last week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/10/2012 15:38

Found a link about the French Patissier competition, but you can't watch it.

Kings of Pastry

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/10/2012 15:42

There's a very funny trailer for it on YouTube (put in Kings of Pastry) and according to Google it's on Netflix.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 11/10/2012 15:43

Just marking my place Smile can't wait for next week

squoosh · 11/10/2012 15:45

I'm low carbing at the moment so won't be scoffing cake for the final. I'm sure a bottle of red wine will suffice nicely. And maybe some cheese.

evilwem · 11/10/2012 15:58

That looks fantastic WhoKnows . One for the LoveFilm list :)

jammic · 11/10/2012 16:17

Swans! Poor Brendan, he always looks so upset when they talk about his 70s repertoire and then he brings out even more 70s stuff! I wonder what he'll do next.

I'm going to be a true Brit and support the underdog. Go John!

LittleAbruzzenBear · 11/10/2012 16:58

pp how do you manage to be on a diet with all those wonderful pastries and confections in France! I salute you! Grin. I would turn into a calorific gateau if I lived there......a great big one with raspberries, almonds and....

wintera · 11/10/2012 20:28

Well at the end of the last ep it showed a clip of the finale and Brendan seemed to be making Fondant Fancies. Have decided I will now buy a pack of Mr Kipling's to eat when the finale is on. What the hell - I may even buy a pack of the Halloween themed ones and really push the boat out. Oh yes indeedy - nommy noms!!

LetUsPrey · 11/10/2012 23:19

I want James to win but won't be overly gutted if Brendan wins. Don't think John will do it but he's a complete sweetie anyway.

Mighty mighty monk seal blog Grin

I do like James. I'd eat anything he put in front of me. And cake too Wink

CaseyShraeger · 11/10/2012 23:29

I think James will win, but I'd be happy to see any of them do it.

jammic · 12/10/2012 07:38

Oooh fondant fancies. Well if Brendan doesn't win, they can crown him king of the 70s instead.

jammic · 12/10/2012 07:56

Sod it, they just crown him king of the 70s anyway whether he wins or not.

jennymac · 12/10/2012 08:51

I like all the finalists and I think that James is amazing for his age and will be even more so after a few years of baking. However, I do really like Brendan and believe that he deserves to win. I don't think he is arrogant but probably just shy and maybe used to being quite private about his life which makes it hard for him to be extrovert on TV.

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2012 09:08

little Thanks Grin but I DID put on nearly 3 stone when we first came here!! hence the diet and now I've lost it I have to careful ALL the time Grin but I'll tell you a secret French chocolate is better than any I've ever tasted (we are foodies too!!) I still have a couple of pieces of the v. dark stuff every day and make brownies from it! It's good for you Grin.

jennymac Br. IMO doesn't have many social skills so maybe that's why he puts his foot in his mouth every time he opens it Grin

Jins · 12/10/2012 09:52

I'm going to back the underdog too. John needs a slightly overweight woman cheering for him!

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2012 10:17

letus Mighty monk was even funnier this week thanks so much for that I'm wiping my eyes from laughing Grin
