Downton Abbey - update required

Any big Downton fans out there who can tell me what happened in the very last episode of series 2 and also the Xmas special? Tryin to get ready for the new series on Sunday but is there anything else I missed? (apart from Lady Mary and Matthew getting together that is)

I'm having Strallan's house as long as he's in it. I've gone totally and unusually soppy over him.

He can't rattle around that house on his own, knocking things over with his bad arm.

He needs Lady Edith and lots of mini-Strallens.

Matthews mothers drawing room is an absolutely stunning blue. I love it.

I prefer Violet's house - far more manageable.

I have just finished watching the first 2 of this series and the whole thing is totally preposterous.
My bet is on Bransom getting killed in the Irish war of Independence now that he has been received into the bosom of the family. Lady Sybil then gets to come home with baby and shag about a bit- presumably with lots of very unsuitable men. Mary is an arse who will get her comeuppance by only producing girls or Matthews bits won't have recovered from their shell shock and there'll be no children at all leading Mary to having it away with one of the servants in attempt to get up the duff.(Hopefully not Carson).
Edith will piss her off by having at least 5 boys in 5 minutes.

I haven't read the whole of the thread so sorry if it has been mentioned but was that Jane woman who turned up at Mrs Crawleys women's shelter thingy the one who had it off with Lord Grantham. She couldn't be pregnant could she? I didn't think they did anything.

Ethel didn't give her son up, she's now a "fallen woman" in York to support him, she's the one who came into Isobel's shelter.

Jane was the maid who snogged Lord 6. He called it all off and having helped get her son into Ripley Grammar School, gave her the card of his "business man" to help give him a start in life.

Ooh larks I haven't been paying attention at all. I watched the last series as a box set over a weekend and I obviously wasn't concentrating enough. Could've been the bottle of knock off Baileys from Aldi that I was given with the DVD.

If Mary and Matthew dont have any sons who will Downton go to?

Only surviving heirs diddl as Mathew was the only male of the previous generation & it wouldn't be entailed as it had been in previous generations I think.

Hadn´t realised that he was the only male of that generation.

I know that no new entails could be started-but did that also mean that existing ones stopped?

What about if M&M had daughters?
