I think it did have an impact on Vern's career, he did not seem to be as porlific as he was. Also, Tess' book on the Perfect Family (or whatever it was) bombed.

Flora (and ad agency) were worried that Vern had lost his family man appeal that they had hired him for, so they conceived those stupid ads with him and his mum.

Agree that the impact on V's career wont be long lasting, however.
