Game of Thrones: why the hell did no one tell me?

Oh my freaking god. It is seriously amazing. DH and I watched the S1 box set in about four nights and I bawled my eyes out towards the end.

And I really didnt like the first book when I read it.

Why did I not know about this? What channel is it on? When is S2 coming out and am I going to have to get Sky? What is wrong with Martin that he does such horrible things to his characters?

Game of Thrones is indeed amazing!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news though. Season 2 finished just last week! And if season one is anything to go by, we will have to wait till April for the Dvds. Angry. Although i'm desperately hoping they release them earlier.
I wish sky had an online player like 4od or bbc iplayer!

Buriedundernappies · 15/06/2012 17:47

Oh and its on the sky atlantic channel. So you need to have a sky package in order to watch it. I have to go over to my mums on monday nights to watch it as she has sky and I don't.

on a brighter note.... series two was just as bloody awesome as series one....

OracleInLeCoracle · 15/06/2012 17:55

Oh my GOD, thank you! We will be gathered round the iPad if we can't get the ps3 to work its magic. I'm off to make popcorn...

But why does Sean Bean always die? Sad

Do you pay for downloads on that site? Is it legal? Sorry for the daft questions!

OracleInLeCoracle · 16/06/2012 17:23

Its free, and legal. All the programmes have been aired on tv.

Ok thanks will have a look. Another GOT fan, but my word it is the most horrid violent thing I've ever seen.

limitedperiodonly · 16/06/2012 18:05

I saw DVDs in Sainsbury's the other day but didn't notice what season they were. Probably 1, come to think of it.

Thanks for that site oracle I'm going to watch it all over again.

But the dragons are cute tuesday.

DH refused to watch season 2 because he was disgusted by the baby dragons at the end of season 1.

He declared the whole thing was spoiled for him because 'dragons aren't cute'.

I pointed out that dragons don't exist so can be whatever the programme makers want them to be. Plus a cute dragon never put him off Shrek which he has watched a number of times.

He scowled but stuck to his boycott. Personally, I think the problem is that Shrek is short while his attention-span isn't up to GOT. He was the same with The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under as well as thorough-going tosh such as Lost and Prison Break.

openerofjars · 16/06/2012 19:50

I dunno, the violence isn't as bad as Kick Ass (vom) or Kill Bill, say, but the wall to wall smut took a bit of getting used to. I don't remember that from the books! I was proper embarrassed at least twice.

Plus, the realism is out the window. I had a baby two weeks ago so am properly post-natally saggy and awful and no way would Danaerys Targeryn (sp?) look so glam, especially given the events surrounding the ending. Even if she is about 15 instead of thirty-cough. And it's not real.

I found that bit nearly unwatchable, though. I so wanted her to have a lovely snuggly baby but then I remembered that George R R Martin mostly wants to cause pain and distress, the bugger. It's as bad as Thomas Hardy, only with dragons, weird shit, gore and breasts instead of farming.

Yeah Kick Ass was violent and weird but somehow this seems worse to me. I think it was when the horse got its head sliced off that I really began to feel unwell. The human heads on spikes thing is gross too.

I'm halfway though series 2 and not loving the dragons or the black ghosty thingy. Supernatural is not my cup of tea so I'm not sure how that will work out. Luckily the human characters are interesting enough and there's enough shagging to keep me interested for the time being! Smile

GOT is tame in comparison to Spartacus :)

openerofjars · 16/06/2012 21:43

No spoilers! Grin

Right, off to read the whole lot...

I hated Kick Arse and Kill Bill mainly because I found KA stupid and peedo-creepy and KB boring. I haven't managed KB2.

Spartacus Blood and Sandals is indeed a bit gratuitous but Jupiter's Cock, I've ploughed though it.

The vertigo-inducing training area on the edge of the cliff disturbs me more than the rape and throat-slitting.
