Seen all material of these two, need some more ideas.

I like those two too. My other favourites are Rhod Gilbert, Sarah Millican and John Bishop.

Will have look, thanks.

I like that they joke about normal, everyday stuff without being too sweary/offensive.

I am not anti swearing at all but shoving the word fuck in a joke for the shock factor doesn't work!

John Bishop and Sean Lock. Lee Mack.

Boyonce · 05/05/2012 22:54

Definitely try Rhod Gilbert then, there is some swearing but he's probably the least offensive of all the comedians I have seen.

I forgot about Lee Mack, he's funny too. Micky Flannagan is also worth a look.

Greg Davies makes me laugh a lot, as does Eddie Izzard

Ponders · 05/05/2012 23:10

I used to like Sarah Millican, from R4, but then I saw her stage show & now I'm a bit meh (she was very sweary & didn't do much else)

So now I wonder about eg Rhod Gilbert (who I also like from R4....)

Jeremy Hardy I have seen live & he was fab, & most of the News Quiz peeps seem to be pretty cool

mosschops30 · 07/05/2012 21:22

I find John Bishop very story-telling-y live, i was sooo bored.
Agree that sarah millican just swears a lot live, but i saw her do a radio 4 play live (in audience) and she was very funny.
I loved Rhod Gilbert live, in fact the end of his 'cat that looks like nicholas lyndhurst' had me in tears it was so funny.

My fave comedian ive seen live is Tommy Tiernan but i appreciate hes an aquired taste.

What about Jason Byrne? Going to see him in October, cant wait

Milton Jones - v. funny, off the wall, non sweary, he had a pilot show on ch4 (?) at Christmas/New Year

Brices · 11/05/2012 10:56

I like most of the above, Hal Cruttenden is also really good I saw him live at Piccadilly comedy club very funny no swearing he's also been on the royal variety show.
The trouble I find with stand up comedy is it tends to be male White middle class, so if you want something a bit different I would try female acts such as Ava Vidal and Shappi Khorsandi.

LouisaJF · 11/05/2012 11:30

Look up Rhod Gilbert's suitcase sketch. I just sat and cried through that!

Stewart Francis is a one-liner comedian and very clever. Went to see him live and was exhausted by the end of it!

stressheaderic · 11/05/2012 23:29

I think Shappi is severely unfunny.
Sean Lock is quite funny doing stand-up. And I love Lee Mack.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 11/05/2012 23:34

Russell Howard.
I also like Michael too :)

Boyonce · 12/05/2012 00:08

I don't like Shappi either. You got divorced, I get it, now tell a joke about something else.

I've just booked to see Rhod Gilbert's new tour later this year, very much looking forward to it. His Henry the Hoover bit is also worth a look, I cried with laughter at that!

LeBOF · 12/05/2012 00:23

Stewart Lee is brilliant. He hates Frankie Boyle too. .

Tweedledeedum · 12/05/2012 07:16

I second Micky Flannagan, very funny! Also love this American guy called David Sedaris - not a stand up comedian but check out his audio books, they are hilarious and he does readings on Radio 4 called "Meet David Sedaris", might still be available as podcasts.
