It's back on TV (Sky). Is it really sad to admit loving it?

It may well have been, although i'm thinking it was more when Hester Sue came on the scene and the little blind boy who refuses to accept he's blind chats to the guy who fancies Hester (can't remember his name offhand) and goes on to sing it with the others in his beautiful voice.

Another fave one is when Nellie 'cooks' Almanzo's fave cinnamon chicken but she gets Laura to cook it and she (Laura) exchanges the cinnamon for paprika and it burns Almanzo's mouth ha-ha Grin and Nellie and her end up fighting and falling in the lake whereupon Almanzo comes and dries Laura off and Pa hears from Mrs Olsen that 'Zaldamo' has Laura in his house and goes to 'kill him' Grin

TwoIfBySea · 19/03/2012 18:33

I'll watch it right up to the "Clown" episode which I'll miss - still have nightmares over that one!

LadyInPink · 19/03/2012 18:38

Clown episode?? Which series TwoIfBySea?

TwoIfBySea · 19/03/2012 18:43

Way towards the end, so lots of frilly nightcaps between now and then. It was when Albert was in it. Shudder. He liked a girl who was attacked by someone wearing a clown mask, everyone thought it was Albert. Never mind that though - the clown was bloody terrifying!

TheCunningStunt · 19/03/2012 18:53

This is exciting. For those who missed the pilot(me)
Sunday is a complete prairie fest for your planners

Tabliope · 19/03/2012 19:43

Thanks for that TheCunningStunt. I'm staying in Sunday then - it's on all day by the look of it. I remember Laura pushing Nellie down the hill in the wheelchair to make her walk. I always wanted one of those blue flowery dresses the mum made for Mary, Laura and Carrie. The colour matched Mary's eyes. Of course, Nellie said something to take the pleasure out of the homemade dresses. Nellie's dad knew what his daughter was like but the mother thought the sun shone out of her a*se.

I've just remembered another bit I loved (not sure if this was in the programme or just in the book, though) Twas when they got snowed in at Christmas and Charles was away somewhere and Mr Edwards,(I loved Mr Edwards!!) trudged through snow and ice to bring them their presents... :o

Nellie's Mum was fab,such a cah Grin

LIZS · 20/03/2012 08:33

Tabliope · 20/03/2012 12:37

haha LIZS - i've already been thinking how on earth can I fit in cooking dinner with Waltons at 5pm and LHOTP at 6pm and now you tell me Masterchef will be on at 7pm. I'll have to read the books as well as I never did.

Mrsjay · 20/03/2012 13:05

Ive just watched it aww it was good poor pa fell out a tree Grin It must be the 2nd epp today , T E reapeats everything through out the day

otterface · 20/03/2012 18:16

The episode where they have Charles Jr., but he dies :( :( , and Laura blames herself because she was jealous of him, so she runs away, and Pa goes looking for her while Ma stays behind, beside herself with thinking they've lost her too...

Oh, GOD, when they are reunited. I could burst into tears right here at my desk.

otterface · 20/03/2012 18:18

Or, in Season 5, when Laura and Albert hop the train with the boy they've befriended who is dying and who just wants to see the Ocean once in his life...

I don't know if I'm able for this! Have Sunday marked to record all day, though - thanks OP and thanks Cunning :)

AreWeHavingFunYet · 20/03/2012 18:20

Was there ever an episode of Little House on the Prairie that didn't involve someone crying? including me

And in The Waltons didn't the man in the shop call his wife Mrs XXX ??

Ahh happy days

VivaLeBeaver · 20/03/2012 18:22

I don't appear to have True Entertainment either on my basic Sky pack or Freeview.

LIZS · 20/03/2012 18:34

No not available on Freeview. We have basic Sky with Disney channel etc added so may be it comes with that .

otterface · 20/03/2012 18:35

Yes, the shopkeepers in The Waltons called each other Mr. and Mrs. Godsey :) And the two 'spinster' sisters called each other "Sister", never by their names. I love the Waltons, but not as much as Little House.

I remember the hours and hours of make-believe that my neighbour friend and I spent, wearing shower caps as bonnets and enduring 'hardships' :)

AreWeHavingFunYet · 20/03/2012 19:17

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about the sisters in The Waltons.

Grin at wearing shower caps and enduring 'hardships'

jellybeans · 20/03/2012 19:23

I love LHOTP. Only episode I can't watch again is 'Slyvia'. Don't know if it is the same one mentioned by poster above but it involves rape and scary jump out your skin moments and is quite disturbing and out of charactor for the series really. The mime mask the killer wears is also very creepy!

Milliways · 20/03/2012 19:30

Thanks to this thread I set a series link, watched the pilot yesterday and the first "plum creek" today :)

My DS (16) is NOT impressed! Grin

bruffin · 20/03/2012 19:35

I saw the episode today, it is one that stuck out in my mind, but never realised it was such an early episode. We used to rush home on a Thursday to watch it.If the bus was on time we could just make it:)

Not sre if my DS 16 would be impressed either Milliway although he loves watch a good romcom with me:) Sadly I don't think DD 14 will watch it either.

marshmallowpies · 20/03/2012 19:40

I never watched the TV show but I love the books so much...they are right here on my bookcase along with Little Women, A Little Princess, Secret Garden, etc.
I've never really grown up, have I?

The more I re-read the books, the more I am impressed by what Laura and her family went through...they must have been days away from starving during the Long Winter, and Pa getting lost in a blizzard whilst being only yards from the house...shudder

jellybeans · 20/03/2012 19:44

My DC all love it although DD (15) finds it funny aswell.

Milliways · 20/03/2012 20:14

DH finds it hysterical that the Indians (episode 1) were played by obviously non-indian people! Grin

I think I am going to have to re-read the whole set of books.

Marshmallowpies-I have just re-read Little Women & Little Men on my Kobo, and I have all those books and more too. :)

MooncupGoddess · 20/03/2012 20:22

I love the books but it sounds like the TV series is very different in terms of plotlines! I'm slightly reluctant to watch it as I have such a clear picture of all of them in my head...
