why do most of the leading men, Lord wotsit, prince of wales, lustful yank - all look so similar?
No disrespect but is Ed Stoppard's mouth slightly obscenely full o' the lip.
Is the lady of the house not as pretty as that maid?
Does the lady of the house have two expressions? Smiling and smiling with a grimace?

Claire Foy is an EXCELLENT actress, in my opinion. Did anybody see her in The Promise? That was absolutely superb.

SpagboLagain · 21/03/2012 09:33

Utterly wooden acting, Keeley Hawes has only one expression which she uses in everything she features in. None of the characters are likeable, and the plot crawls along excruciatingly slowly then covers a major event in about 3 minutes.

I don't understand Art Malik's character, what exactly do they pay him to do?

Why am I still watching this drivel?

choceyes · 21/03/2012 09:47

Was watching this last night on Iplayer. Some of the bits are just unbelievable, like when the Duke of Kent was dancing with the servants in the ball. Come on...that would NEVER have happened!

albertswearengen · 21/03/2012 09:54

I am hoping the body is Hallam who, overwhelmed by his smuggery at 'always being right about the war,' tops himself.
I hated this series but the last episode actually got me hooked again as it's a bit more interesting than the cliched baddies v goodies of Downton.
Some of the acting is awful especially the Toffs they seem to have interpreted stiff upper lip quite literally.

diddl · 21/03/2012 10:55

"None of the characters are likeable,"

I think that´s basically the problem-you just don´t feel anything for them.

The only one I feel for is Lady Agnes tbh-nearly dies having a family & can´t risk more children.

The onus I gather is on her husband to use condoms-but he´s shagging his SIL instead-who has just had an abortionHmm

Maybe it is Hallam that´s dead & Persie will be pregnant!

That´ll be original.

diddl · 21/03/2012 10:57

Wonder what any of his rellies think of the interpretation of the DofKGrin

SpagboLagain · 21/03/2012 11:42

I googled the Duke as I didn't actually know who he was.
What I read sounds worse than what USDS shows :o

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2012 13:04

yeah Lebof Claire Foy is an excellent impersonator of a piece of wood! As Longstocking says so is Romola Garai both are beautiful but brain dead IMO and annoyingly in everything. There must be some pretty girls who can act about!!

I thought the last one was an improvement though; I love Sarah Lancashire; yes choceyes the toffs usually mixed with servants informally once a year at a ball or served them dinner at Xmas.

I have a theory that possibly the resemblance between Hallam and the Duke is deliberate so that they can have another ridiculous plotline about impersonation. If you've nothing better to do watch next week!!

Bossybritches22 · 25/03/2012 21:42

oooh John-bless him he's taking over the butlers role perfectly!

Bossybritches22 · 25/03/2012 21:50

Bye bye trollop....

........and Mr P is back yaaay!

Northernlurker · 25/03/2012 22:11

Excellent - Lady P smashed to pieces and Beryl slightly shot meaning they cannot decamp to America.

I fear we may be forced to endure another series with Lady A keeping a stiff upper lip and Sir Hallam following the Duke of Kent about. Slightly worrying that as the Duke of K died in an air crash in 1942.......

Bossybritches22 · 25/03/2012 22:46

Indeed Northern and what with his Lordship answering his own door then things quite clearly are Never Going To Be The Same Again!

Actually listening to that declaration of war, I felt quite emotional, it must have been terrifying.

tribpot · 25/03/2012 23:18

I was very sorry not to see Lady P hauled away to her righteous fate in Holloway Prison, that was a shame. But not sorry we will no longer have to endure her pouting pointlessness.

Good, therefore, that her final act was the seemingly pointless shooting of Beryl - who promptly gets better and then all is well. And Hallam is going to work at Buck House, despite being the BIL of a known traitor?? Surely not.

I see the lovely Casper NylonStocking returned for one final attempt to persuade Agnes to run away to the land of plenty, sigh. Perhaps when those 144 pairs of stockings have run out ...

TartyMcFarty · 26/03/2012 07:06

Did anyone else notice that Lady P was decidedly make-up free before she topped herself, but when John (?) found her cigarette, the lipstick on the holder was very, aherm, poignant?

Bossybritches22 · 26/03/2012 07:09

oooh tarty how observant of you, didn't notice the lipstick just the contemptous way John discarded it.

Bossybritches22 · 26/03/2012 07:12

tribpot Possibly the intervention of BestBuddyHRH got LordH the post ?

After all he was cleared of any compliance with LadyP and I think HRH rather fancies him

Northernlurker · 26/03/2012 07:29

HRH is clearly planning a shagfest in uniform. Have checked and his equerry was definately with him when the plane flew in to the hill.........

diddl · 26/03/2012 08:11

Hoorah!Blush

Any chance of an American at the helm of 165?

The servants would love that!!

ppeatfruit · 26/03/2012 08:39

tarty As I said earlier the make up artist is the one who acts instead of Claire Foy! Did you notice the dark eyebags when she was on the floor outside her good sister's bedroom, and till 'the end' ? tribpot yeah shame she wasn't dragged off to Holloway with all the proles!

I'm annoyed it was on at the same time as Titanic but just watching in the advert breaks i didn't miss much at all! That American is cute but still a bit like the other lead posho blokes. northern is there another prog.?

diddl · 26/03/2012 11:25

So, will there be another series?

Focussed on the women?

Why was Beryl so nasty to Lady A?

Because Lady P had slept with Harry but not be "told off" for it?

And why did Lady P mention the abortion?

What a bitch-lost all sympathy for her there tbh.

Northernlurker · 26/03/2012 12:49

Lady P mentioned the abortion because she knew it would wound Agnes and she was being a bitch which unfortunately appeared to be her default setting. No other reason.

I don't think the viewing figures are good enough for another series alas.

ppeatfruit · 26/03/2012 13:26

So it's finished then? Good I won't miss it. Shame actually it was a missed opportunity.

diddl · 26/03/2012 13:27

I agree.

I enjoyed the last 2 eps, but it could have been a lot better imo.

GeorginaWorsley · 26/03/2012 20:45

I quite liked it,it got better as it went on.
I think they should do another series.
Although viewing figures not in Call The Midwife/Downton league,it was still about fourth most watched prog on BBC.

ppeatfruit · 27/03/2012 09:26

Yes it improved but that's not saying much is it? It was soo weird; did anyone notice on Sun's that suddenly it became like a trailer lots of flashing shots when the sisters were fighting, I understand what they were trying to do but it didn't work.
