Has anyone else noticed how the skinny ones in the pair are always very disgusted and judgemental?

Or am I imagining it?

countessbabycham · 06/03/2012 22:56

No TheFarSide I don't think you're imagining it.You can almost taste the disgust,it seems.

Mollydoggerson · 06/03/2012 22:59

The skinnies are disgusted by the food,
Whereas the fatties are saddened and tantrummy or sulky by the lack of it.

Usually the skinnies only eat crap food as well though, just teeny amounts.

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 06/03/2012 23:01

she was quite bitchy to him

Eggrules · 07/03/2012 09:49

The two skinnies so far have been very sanctimonious. Both diets and lifestyles are very emotionally and physically damaging.

Looking at them on the TV screen, the small bodies look kind of normal imo. I bet they would look like children irl.

They don't spend a week anymore, just two days. It was fascinating to investigate the reasons why there were issues with food. I loved looking through old photographs.

Wow - the progress made by Emma (?) was amazing. I didn't recognise her. She seemed so happy; I am so happy for her.

ripsishere · 07/03/2012 17:43

That poor boy last night. I know he was 25, but he seemed really juvenile not grown up really.
I agree that the 'skinnies' are not very nice.
The woman from the last series, which I didn't see is unrecognisible. Well done her.

peachsmuggler · 07/03/2012 18:18

Totally agree eggrules, am so glad they showed that woman, Emma again. On the last series, out of all those women, I found it difficult to see how she would find her way back to health, she was in such a bad way. She just seemed so sad. Was lovely to see her progress, she seemed so full of life, giggling away, and her eyes really lit up. So pleased for her.

Eggrules · 07/03/2012 18:23

She was unrecognisable; inside and out. She was desperately unhappy and now has a lovely twinkle in her eye. What a difference 18 months has made.

moonblushtomato · 07/03/2012 22:58

Yes the skinny bird 6 was bitchy towards the fat guy last nite (tho I also don't believe he was telling the truth about what he ate to get to that size!)

Thought it was hilarious when he retorted "you do look alot older than 25"!! Unfortunately she did.

TheFarSide · 07/03/2012 23:20

Yes moonblush - I think she asked for that! She seemed to be taunting him when she was eating huge platefuls of food and kept saying 'are you SURE you don't want any of this?'.

countessbabycham · 08/03/2012 00:14

Is part of the underweight issue because of a fear that learning to like food could spark getting to the situation where control of eating is lost, and they become overweight just like the people they seem to be disgusted by?

Having never been underweight,I struggle to understand the issues that those who are underweight have.

threestepsforward · 08/03/2012 12:19

Saw a show on Dave last night for the first time called Man V Food. Has anyone seen it?

Guy travels round and eats in local US eateries. The portions there are UNBELIEVABLE - totally shocking, enORmous. I wondered if that portion size is the norm now in America. If it is I can easily see how the obesity problem there is so bad.

AmberLeaf · 08/03/2012 12:49

Ive seen Man vs Food

Makes me hungry just thinking about it, but yes some of the portions are obscene.

From what ive been told, they dont scrimp on portions sizes over there.

threestepsforward · 08/03/2012 12:55

Lol Amberleaf, yes I was salivating at the diner puds, but there is no way I could eat a portion that big, and believe me I can put it away!!
I have American family and have seen on visits that portions are bigger than over here, but not that big - wonder if his show is the extreme end of the scale?
My US family are way the opposite. Massively food and health conscious...to boring levels!

Eggrules · 08/03/2012 14:08

Man V Food is mental. I Food portions are definitely much bigger in the US but I think the meals he has are the special challenges on the menu.

My US family eat out a few times a week but are also very active. None of them are overweight; you do see a lot of extremes Either supersize or superskinny.

peachsmuggler · 08/03/2012 14:09

I went to the states a couple of years ago and put on 6 pounds in two weeks!! Blush

threestepsforward · 08/03/2012 14:32

It's easily done over there peachsmuggler!
Eggrules you're right about the extremes. I think where my family live (Maine) is a generally super health conscious state. My favourite treat was a breakfast at Dunkin Donuts with a mahoosive cup of coffee!
And yes we ate out loads when over there, it seemed it was as cheap to eat out than to shop to eat in.

Agree with Hammy02 it is a bizarre 'therapy' to swap an over-eater with an under-eater's diet in Supersize. I guess the premise is to shock them into changing their habits?

countessbabycham · 08/03/2012 17:06

I went to the US about 30 years ago.

Even then, where I went, (Florida) it was virtually impossible to find anywhere to eat that offered anything other than fast food.I was desperate for proper fresh food like meat and 2 veg on our return.

So the obesity crisis has been a long time in the making there.

NettoSuperstar · 08/03/2012 17:51

DD and I love watching Man v Food. The portions are obscene, but that's the point of the show.

In real life, being served a large portion would put me off, I hate feeling like eating is a challenge.

I am a healthy weight, not skinny, but slim.

I admit I am disgusted with what the larger people eat, but I am also perplexed by the thin people, not just the teeny portions, but that it's never decent food.

It has made me think about my tea habit though.
I think nothing of drinking 15 mugs of tea a day, and not eating until the evening, even though what I do eat is (during the week) prepared from scratch and balanced.
