Were you one of those people who thought they were being stupid for believing that the University Challenge teams were actually sitting one above the other? Well ...

I was reading the wikipedia page on UC and apparently in 1985 they experimented with actual two-tiered teams. It was not a success.

So you aren't thick afterall. Especially if you watched it in 1985. Or you watched The Young Ones pisstake.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 27/02/2012 20:43

I don't know if its an urban myth but I've read that the "top" team on one edition poured their drinks over the front of the desk to show that they weren't actually above the other team.

Crop rotation in the 14th century Grin

travellingwilbury · 27/02/2012 21:25

Wasn't that the one where Vivian lost his head and kicked it down the train tracks ?

I loved The Young Ones .

Giyadas · 27/02/2012 21:37

Re: Celebrity Squares, not sure about the real set but if you scroll down here you can apparently hire a 20ft version for corporate events.

Tsk travellingwilbury - Crop rotation in the 14th century...was considerably more important...

MegIet · 27/02/2012 21:38

Yes, for years. But I was raised on The Young Ones.

Mum had to explain it to me in the end.

travellingwilbury · 27/02/2012 21:40

Oh yes I had forgotten the considerably bit Grin

Am I making it up or was there something about Bamber being a rabbit killer ?

MegIet · 27/02/2012 21:48

It was the one with Motorhead in.

Me and my sister used to be able to quote the whole episode word for word, we humiliated our parents when we did it on the train. We were 14 & 12 Grin. (I think that was the moment my memory peaked, never managed to revise for exams, but a young ones episode was easy).

cambridgeferret · 27/02/2012 21:51

Was that the one where Neil dropped a wee bottle on the team below?
Or did I imagine that?
