Glenshee · 27/02/2012 12:54

This Thursday, 1 March @ 9pm

Channel 4: Make Bradford Bristish
Guardian: Bradford and race: the TV experiment that aims to change perceptions and prejudice
Daily Mail: It's Big Brother Bradford: Shocking new TV show brings together eight people from different ethnic backgrounds with explosive results

A bit dissapointed that Eastern Europeans aren't represented, but still looking forward - should be very amusing :)

I took the (real) citizenship test only a year ago, so know too well what a joke it is!

what was the 'question too far'?

i was busy with chocolate! [shame]

babyboomersrock · 08/03/2012 21:44

I can't bear this. Jens is horrible. And Maura?? What's she trying to prove? She's becoming ghastly as well. Why so bloody patronising?

amistillsexy · 08/03/2012 21:45

I mean Blush

Blush
QueenKong · 08/03/2012 21:46

I think I'd rather paint Damon's entire house than attend one of Maura's dinner parties.

He was asked how he would feel if his daughter brought a white guy home.

megapixels · 08/03/2012 21:46

His daughter is married though? That's probably why he got so upset.

amistillsexy · 08/03/2012 21:46

Oh. I see. Slight over reaction if that's all there was but I think relationships are very strained all round!

QueenKong · 08/03/2012 21:47

Ah, I see. Blush

megapixels · 08/03/2012 21:48

His daughter is married but her husband is in Pakistan because she's not 21 yet and cannot bring him here on a spouse visa. Mohammed would have been angry that they thought she'd be the type to have an affair while her husband is away.

dreamingofcalm · 08/03/2012 21:48

Mohammed is intolerant and disrespectful, Sabbiya and Rashid are much better examples of Muslims IMHO.

amistillsexy · 08/03/2012 21:49

X-post with the one about daughter being married.

That's NOT a good thing to say at all then!

What a tit! (The woman's husband, not Mohammed!)

amistillsexy · 08/03/2012 21:50

Love the idea of them banning racism in that pub!

Good for her!

QueenKong · 08/03/2012 21:50

I want that naked calendar!!!!

QueenKong · 08/03/2012 21:52

Argh, that image of Jens in his pants is now burnt on my retinas.

babyboomersrock · 08/03/2012 21:53

Jens...boak.

jenpetronus · 08/03/2012 21:56

Finding it really interesting too (apart from Jens pants obviously)
I was born in Bradford & lived there until I left at 25. I well remember the riots - sitting in a pub & a brick came flying through the window & landed on the table we were sitting at. I kid you not.
Sad to say I recognise each "type" very well. Not much has changed, nor do I think it will in our lifetimes.

dreamingofcalm · 08/03/2012 22:00

Loving Damon & Rashid's relationship.

babyboomersrock · 08/03/2012 22:08

Damon was good - open to change, despite his initial misgivings. Honest enough to admit - and I see this as a huge issue - that immigrant communities often have close family bonds that white communities no longer have (and envy?).

Maura was depressing in the end; superficially liberal, but blind to her prejudices. I'd hate to dine at her house.

partyhats · 09/03/2012 23:15

Mohammed handled it badly and he came across as really macho overall but Mauras husband was being deliberately provocative, I think it would be offensive to most people to suggest their married daughter may have an affair. Maura was a complete faux liberal. Can't believe Sabiyah let that fucking nasty racist scum put his hands on her, I would have broken it off.

NadiaWadia · 10/03/2012 03:16

Maura's husband - was it actually him who asked the question or a Channel 4 person - probably didn't even know the daughter was married. Anyway it was a hypothetical and perfectly reasonable question. Mohammed came across as a twat, and was my least favourite participant.

My favourites were Desmond and Sabiyah, who were both lovely. Can't believe what poor Sabiyah had to put up with in that pub. The illogical racist and sexist rantings of that moronic thug- and then he dared to touch her legs - that's technically assault I think. I thought she was very brave.
