The Wire. Is it really that good?

I have 8 episodes of this on sky+ from the beginning of series one taking up space on my +box. I can't seem to muster enthusiasm to watch them so I either delete them to make space, or I start watching them tonight. Just feel a bit meh about it. So. Is it worth watching? Or an over-hyped piece of nonsense?

It's the best tv programme that has ever been made ever in the history of television making programme making.

But subtitles help until you get going, otherwise you won't have a clue. There are lots of characters to get to grips with so pick a few to focus on initially. I would treat D'Angelo as your main character to start with

The end of season 1 was sad though. Don't want to spoil it for others but you know what I'm talking about.

I know "Bunk" is a womanising sod but I do love him!

However I have moved on swiftly to Treme and await the 3rd season which is currently in production. As others have said, it is completely different to the wire but equally good writing and equally addictive.
But in reply to OP, stick with the Wire if you can. It is sooooo worth it

limited,sorry to disappoint you,it is fairly run of the mill-Isabella.It was from the episode where Tony hallucinates an Italian dental student staying next door,named Isabella.DH and I both liked it and it was one of the few names we could agree on.

I couldn't get into Treme,although I really wanted to.I have a fim called 'The Corner',which I've yet to watch,featuring some of the actors from The Wire,but the opposite way round,so a cop in The Wire,is a drug dealer in The Corner.That should mess with my head.

Isabella is a beautiful name. Not as unusual as Big Pussy but she'll thank you for that.
