Blooming Upstairs Downstairs is on the same time. I dont know which one to watch. Its written by the same people as 24 and it has the very lovely Damian Lewis in it.

Upstairs Downstairs for me although really annoyed that Homeland is on at the same time when there's nothing on at all the rest of the week. Honestly why deprive us.

CarelessWispa · 19/02/2012 19:24

I'm going to watch, and hopefully persuade DH to join me. We both loved 24 (although that did get a bit silly towards the end).

There's always iplayer for Upstairs Downstairs!

HJisthinkingofanewname · 19/02/2012 19:27

What channel is it on?

Shinyshoes1 · 19/02/2012 19:29

channel 4 and I can't wait for it to start !!! I'm getting very excited Grin

kildare34 · 19/02/2012 21:14

In Ireland, Homeland started about 4 weeks ago. It is the best series I've seen in a long time. Claire Daines and Damian Lewis are excellent. Watch it!!!!

GeorginaWorsley · 19/02/2012 21:38

BrightnessFalls · 19/02/2012 21:42

The best thing about Homeland is Inigo Montoya Grin

noddyholder · 19/02/2012 22:57

Best thing on tv in years

ifancyashandy · 19/02/2012 23:43

Loved it! It were finger tapping good!

mumdebump · 20/02/2012 14:29

Was v good. Really hoping it has a more coherent plot than 24 which the script writers made up as they went along (and it showed). That was 24 hours of my life that I'm not getting back and I'm still Angry about it.

BooToYouToo · 21/02/2012 11:23

Great telly, looking forward to the rest of the series.

I assume they will keep us guessing throughout. This episode he seemed guilty so it will be interesting to see how they change our sympathies next week.

Two things bugged me however. Would she really have been driving through Baghdad on her own?

And surely she would have shared the prisoner's intelligence that an American P O W had been "turned" with others so that alarm bells would be ringing when he was found?

CailinDana · 21/02/2012 11:27

Oooh I finished watching this series recently. I'm not going to give anything away, don't worry, but just let me say that is well worth watching to the end, it is brilliant. I find Clare Danes a bit whingy but she does play the part well.

CailinDana · 21/02/2012 11:29

Boo - I think she was driving on her own and didn't share the intelligence because at the stage she had gone sort of "rogue" - she shouldn't have been in the prison talking to the guy and so, I suppose, didn't say anything because she thought there were no POWs anyway and she was worried she would get in trouble if she let it be known she was in the prison. Maybe?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 21/02/2012 12:41

I watched the first episode and thought it was great. I agree with CailinDana about why Claire D's character was on her own and why she didn't share her knowledge. Also, as we now know she has SPOILER!!

mental-health issues, I wonder if maybe she kept it to herself out of paranoia?

I haven't seen her in anything for years but liked her performance in this a lot. They're laying on her liking for jazz a bit thick though. I know it turned out to have significance in the finger-tapping sequence, but it seems a bit heavy-handed to keep shoving it in our faces. Or does it turn out to be very important later on?

CailinDana · 21/02/2012 12:45

Nah the jazz thing is just wanky. TBH I was worried at the start that there would a be a high wank-factor in this show, particularly as the opening sequence is so indescribably awful but, thankfully, there isn't. In fact it only gets better as the series goes on.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 21/02/2012 12:50

'just wanky'. Grin

Good to know.

BTW does anyone else think his wife looks rather young to have kids of the age of their daughter? Or am I just being an old gimmer as usual?

BooToYouToo · 21/02/2012 13:13

That makes sense CailinDana, I can see I'm going to have to turn to you to explain some of the plot points.

CailinDana · 21/02/2012 13:41

LadyClarice - the actress who plays the mother - Morena Baccarin - is only 32 so I suppose unless she was meant to be a teen mother she is too young for the part. I don't like her much at all, she by far the weakest actor in the series.

Don't worry about asking about plot points, Boo, I'm well used to it. My sister is very much the "Who's that now, and where's he going, and is that is his son or his dog?" type of tv companion!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 21/02/2012 13:46

Yes, she didn't impress me much in the first episode. What is it with casting too-young women? Damian Lewis isn't exactly ancient at 41, I know, but that is almost 10 years older than the woman playing his wife. (I know there are different-age relationships in RL and I'm not saying it's a problem, in case anyone's about to jump down my throat!) but it seems to be standard practice in films and TV to automatically cast any actress over the age of about 25 as a 'mum'.

diddl · 21/02/2012 14:22

Is this repeated?-just tried 4od & can´t get it to work.

Missed it Saturday as I taped Upstairs Downstairs instead.

Won´t be making that mistake again!

diddl · 21/02/2012 14:22

Or even Sunday!!

edinburghrock · 21/02/2012 21:11

I loved it. Please, lets have no Spoilers though. Even though it will be tempting to ask Smile

Kellamity · 21/02/2012 23:32

Just watched after my mum suggested I sky+ it. Brilliant looking forward to Sunday!!! Smile

mrscumberbatch · 22/02/2012 21:11

Ive watched the first few episodes (downloaded from torrentz) and it is very very good. I am definitely going to stick with it.
