Thanks Hermione , probably because I've been blubbing and my heart rate is bound to be all over the place

oooggs · 08/02/2012 22:05

Twin delivery next week - can't wait to see what it looks like from a different angle Grin

NonnoMum · 08/02/2012 22:06

I'm not commenting on her swearing during the birth, but greeting her brand new baby with a mouthful. As did the dad.

Yes, she seems sweet, yes she is well supported and yes she is very beautiful, but it's just a bit of a shame (not the end of world, admittedly) that the first words she said to her baby involved swearing.

katiecoocoo · 08/02/2012 22:06

That will never happen Amberleaf..too many people will always judge..shame eh..?..

sodapops · 08/02/2012 22:06

I didn't swear either Robin, DH couldn't believe it, especially as I had no pain relief with DS2

Punchthosecalories · 08/02/2012 22:07

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/02/2012 22:08

She said bloody to her mam. The baby will hardly remember.

Punchthosecalories · 08/02/2012 22:09

I'm watching on record. Oh heck. I'll be back later to read.

hellsbells76 · 08/02/2012 22:10

she only said 'bloody' fergawd's sake. and i doubt the baby will remember...

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/02/2012 22:10

See you all next week!

JasperJohns · 08/02/2012 22:11

I am exhausted after tonight's programme!

Both dh and I were in tears through that older woman's horrendous birth.

Every week when I watch this, I am grateful for my easy births.

I can't imagine the aftermath of that birth - it looked brutal.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 08/02/2012 22:13

tw Smile. If he is still talking to me after 20 years of me pushing him to get that darn medical degree!

girliefriend · 08/02/2012 22:14

Oh God have just about recovered from watching!!

How did no one know that that baby was going to be so big? The ladies bump was huge! Surely if you are going to have a big baby that is a big risk factor for complications?

If they knew it was going to be a big baby (over 10lbs) I wonder if they would have gone for a c.s sooner.

Awful and scary birth Sad

porcamiseria · 08/02/2012 22:17

just logged on as fairly traumatised after watching that, SWEET JESUS
clearly not alone feeling quite weepy
fucking hell, and thank god for modern medicine

hellsbells76 · 08/02/2012 22:18

it's very hard to predict a big baby. scans can be 1-2lbs out, depending on how she was carrying she may well have been measuring a normal size...

NotTheBlinkingGruffaloAgain · 08/02/2012 22:18

I feel sick after that all the emotion I'm so happy the babies are okay

hugglymugly · 08/02/2012 22:21

I could see if I can rewatch the first series just to refresh my memory, but I'm thinking more and more that the first series was a documentary showing what childbirth is like these days, but now it seems increasingly like a drama. I don't recall from the first series that they spent so much time on interviewing the parents, nor that they did so much compare&contrast between mothers in such differing situations.

I felt that there was very little explanation of the need to do the McRoberts manoeuvre or what that actually is, but they got some great shots of very concerned midwives without really focussing on why they were so concerned. In terms of information, there was a serious lack of it. If I were an ordinary viewer, I wouldn't have learned much about McRoberts or shoulder dystocia from watching - what I do know I've learned from reading posts here.

I will probably continue to watch the current series, but I'm feeling increasingly manipulated to see this as a drama rather than a documentary.

girliefriend · 08/02/2012 22:23

Even the midwife commented though when she first went in 'are you sure its not twins?' It was obv going to be a big baby.

Did she go in to be induced? I wonder if she was overdue?

I had a horrific birth with my dd and so far thats the only one on OBEM thats come close Sad

Shenanagins · 08/02/2012 22:25

That was horrific, just awful. So glad that both babies are fine.

hellsbells76 · 08/02/2012 22:26

also a big baby doesn't necessarily mean shoulder dystocia - it happens just as often to average sized babies and plenty of big ones are born normally. doesn't help being flat on your back though. it'd be great if we could predict what would happen with every labour but i don't see how an elcs purely because the baby appeared big would have been indicated in this case, especially as she'd had a straightforward birth with a good-sized baby before.

grubbalo · 08/02/2012 22:31

I agree Huggly

Not sure showing that birth on tv was a good decision or what the point of it was. What a way to scare pregnant women. Yes shoulder dystocia happens but it's rare and that should have been emphasised more. It was completely sensationalist and I feel sorry for midwives whose job I can't imagine has got any easier following this.

recall · 08/02/2012 22:41

I don't think it has anything to do with the size of the baby
