What's good on TV for a nearly 5yo boy?

Getting too old for CBeebies though he likes Mike the Knight & Octonauts, so I thought we'd move on to CBBC - yikes! It seems to segue smoothly from Lazytown to Tracey Beaker and I'm out of my comfort zone.

What's good AND age-appropriate out there? We only have CBBC/CBeebies and CITV none of the other channels. Ds likes Splatalot (and the Crystal Maze on Challenge!).

I find it helpful to record stuff so he has something to watch in the nightmare post-school slump and I think we've seen every MtK and Octonauts episode 100 times.

My DS was five yesterday. He likes Krypto the Superdog, Phineus and Ferb, Kick Buttowski, Spongebob, that kind of thing.

I prefer The Regular Show and Adventure Time, both of which are quite strange but quite brilliant too Grin

I think a lot of those are on cable channels though. Are you able to download programmes from the internet?

liveinazoo · 07/02/2012 17:48

scooby doo(3.30 cbbcWink)

me and kids race home to watch it together(used to be 4pm..much better imoHmm)

CumberdickBendybatch · 07/02/2012 17:50

Horrible Histories, Shaun The Sheep

MsMarple · 07/02/2012 17:51

My DS likes a bit of vintage Batman - was on ITV4 earlier today. KerPOW!

CumberdickBendybatch · 07/02/2012 20:24

Ah yes, DS likes "proper Batman" too Grin

Wipeout is also good for a giggle :)

CringeyButtocks · 08/02/2012 00:14

Thanks all I will investigate. Wipeout is another current favourite of mine ds's.

MotherOfSuburbia · 08/02/2012 14:27

Deadly 60 / deadly Art

CMOTDibbler · 08/02/2012 14:29

All the Deadly programmes (I like watching too, due to the lovely Steve), Splatalot, Horrible Histories, Gory games

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 08/02/2012 14:33

dd1 is at the same stage - growing out of Cbeebies, too young for a lot of the Cbbc output.
She likes horrible histories - mostly it goes over her head but she like the songs, Wipeout, the Magic thing on BBC1 on Saturday night, the early Harry Potter films (1-4 seem age appropriate), anything Aardman, especially The Wrong Trousers. She likes the Simpsons as well, even though it's another one where lots goes over her head.

puzzletree · 08/02/2012 21:34

My boys are 5 and 3 and the only CBBC they watch, and avidly, is Deadly 60.

iseenodust · 08/02/2012 22:16

Deadly 60 definitely
Nina and the neurons
Kerwhizz (tho I can't watch it's too annoying)
Shaun the sheep

If you fancy a blast from the past but not a whole film we have bought very cheaply DVDs of Wacky Races, Scooby Doo, Duck Tales (Donald's nephews) & Hong Kong Phooey (no Sky here either!).

kickingking · 09/02/2012 09:22

We are in the same situation. DS likes octonauts and Nina and the neurons on cbeebies. He likes deadly 60 on cbbc, but nit much else.

We've been watching DVDs of various Pixar creations and he is enjoying tv shows from mummy and daddy's childhood on YouTube - banana man and superted!

Dancergirl · 09/02/2012 16:32

Out of interest what makes you think he's getting too old for cbeebies? My older two still watched way past 5!

MuddlingMackem · 11/02/2012 22:35

DD is 5 and she's also growing out of CBeebies but isn't ready for much on CBBC. Fortunately we have Sky so have a few other children's channels, but I hate the adverts.

It's frustrating because DS, who's now 8, still likes some programmes on CBeebies even now, so would watch it with her if she was okay with it, but she's the one complaining it's too babyish. Grr!!

gregssausageroll · 12/02/2012 07:55

The ads on the sky channels are awful. We tend to record a lot some can ff for ds.

accessorizequeen · 15/02/2012 21:01

My 5 yo really loves Fleabag monkey face. In fact so do 8yo and 3 yo dts. Can't remember which channel but we don't have cable.
