Ive just been accepted on to a college interview to take a social work access course so I can apply at uni to be a social worker. Im stuck between this and midwifery. Please if there's anyone out there who is one, tell me about it and if its worth the stress and possibility of dealing with a child who has been sexually abused. Thats the most difficult thing I can imagine, but I know its part of the job.

You can choose not to work in child protection ? Doesn't mean you wont come across the bad stuff but means it's not constant.

Do you definately want to work with children? What about elderly , mental health or disability teams? Or fostering/adoption teams where you assess & support the adults?

I would have loved to work as a social worker but the 2 things i would find difficult would be removing children from their familys and dealing with knowing details of horrific child abuse cases whether sexual abuse or not its upsetting. In one way i admire social workers in another i think sometimes red tape gets in the way of common sense and they get it wrong Sad
