that is the last thing they need, pregnancy complications as well Sad

onadietcokebreak · 30/01/2012 21:33

So glad for foster placement

Charlotteperkins · 30/01/2012 21:33

Voluntary foster care- does he have the capacity to understand the long term consequences of this?

Although I agree it is required ATM.

DialsMavis · 30/01/2012 21:33

I think you have to feel for the parents, surely they can't have ever learnt how to have a family life

charity2 · 30/01/2012 21:33

Well, now they have agreed to put the little boy in foster care whilst the mum is in hospital. I think the mum knows that the dad isnt capable (or she doesnt trust him) to look after him alone.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/01/2012 21:34

I think there are solutions for parents with learning difficulties. But they are expensive.

Shared care, respite care, theraputic communities etc. They can work.

BUt the parents have to engage or they cant work.

But there is never enough money so its all academic

8oreighty · 30/01/2012 21:34

Dad is awful. Poor poor kid.

beachyhead · 30/01/2012 21:34

Nice farewell from dadGrin

HarriettJones · 30/01/2012 21:34

Charlotte- that's where lack of funds comes in. Early intervention funding has been slashed (despite The Munro review) which means the threshold for support is getting higher.

I'm going to be in tears in a sec.

MamaMaiasaura · 30/01/2012 21:34

What a bastard. He doesn't give a fuck about Toby and he deliberately upset his little boy

festi · 30/01/2012 21:34

heartbreaking

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 30/01/2012 21:34

no chance of calming him down when you have just said go on you are going with them now

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2012 21:35

This is heartbreaking.

8oreighty · 30/01/2012 21:35

Wish someone would pick him up and give him a cuddle ffs

ThePathanKhansWitch · 30/01/2012 21:35

I think i would cost massive amounts to really help families so deep in trouble.

A custom built village, all agencies on site, 24 hr help and support.

Effectively 're-parent' the parents. Oh God it's all so heartbreaking.

StarlightMcKenzie · 30/01/2012 21:35

Why can't the dad go too?

StitchingMoss · 30/01/2012 21:35

Wow, the dad is truly awful Sad. Poor poor little boy - he's the same age as my DS1 but what worlds apart their lives are Sad.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/01/2012 21:35

He wont understand the full consequences but if he doesnt agree they would probably push for a place of safety order wouldnt they?

Lots of kids are in voluntary care but when the parents want them back SS go for a care order.

RitaMorgan · 30/01/2012 21:35

They can't let the dad keep care of the child.

feelingdizzy · 30/01/2012 21:35

Diet coke break,
was a social worker for 10 years, was fairly senior at the end.
Its fairly accurate, except thatsadly a newly qualified social worker wouldn't be offered that amount of support. You are very much thrown in at the deep end.
God its heartbreaking stuff

Charlotteperkins · 30/01/2012 21:36

Why aren't non-court solutions being tried first?

Parenting classes?
Nursery?
Dog?

thekidsrule · 30/01/2012 21:36

personally i think if that child is left with his parents the cycle will continue

i cant understand if the parents realise that they might take the boy away
