I'm adamant that DS2 will have a helmet when he's old enough for cycling. When I was 8 I was in hospital and in another bed was a boy of 13 who had been knocked off his bike while on his paper round. He was permanently and irreversably brain damaged due to his injuries and was seriously disabled. They were preparing him for going home and previously he had been in intensive care etc. I have always remembered him for some reason and my mum explaining why he was like that (I guess I must have asked, mum had got talking to his mum in the parents room over a few days and therefore knew the basics of his story). Why would you risk that for a child if there is even a chance that a helmet will prevent it? DH is a bit of the school of benign neglect but I don't consider no head protection to be benign neglect, it's just reckless. I should point out that we live in a town centre with lots of traffic, maybe if you have a very quiet area in the middle of nowhere it's different, I don't know.

Did anyone else think that continuum mum was weirdly aggressive about her attachment-parenting-earth-mothery ideals? I agreed with a lot of what she said but I liked her second-to-last, after twatty placenta-mum.

EdithWeston · 12/01/2012 12:56

Does anyone know if it's going to be repeated? (I only caught the second half).

CuriousMama · 12/01/2012 13:04

Here it is on 4OD

adinaabfab · 12/01/2012 13:07

I thought the earth mother was fabulous, I'd love to be like her without so many Dcs She didn't look like what I would expect a homeschooling parent to look like. How the hell did she HS, have an amazing body, have a business, keep her house clean and tidy, parent, be pregnant etc. Hated the dcs names. Hmm

The placenta lady, though it was a weird thing to say about her being a cs baby and not being close to her DM, poor women. However loved the placenta prints, capsules etc draw the line at using the cord as a decoration I buried mine under a tree after keeping it in the freezer for 6 months, I defrosted it and me and DD2 had a good look at it, fascinating! So sad that the thing that kept your baby alive is incinerated.

The continum parent, erm, well I like the idea of 'baby-wearing' but I don't think it harms the baby to be put down. Hmm The ilimination communiactiob, fine if you want to do that, however I can't be arsed to watch my baby 24/7 literally wouldn't do it. I co-slept/co-sleep - love it! She seemed very angry with the world.

The dancer, fine really apart from the phone. Shock and she looked horrendous

The wedding dress, non- helmet wearing mother. I really find the baby not wearing a helmet shocking as she has no say. WTF is friend about? I would hate her to be my DDs step mother, my house, my rules. Hmm However she did seem to love all the dcs the same so I'll give her that.

I enjoyed the programme and really whats wrong with being different?

adinaabfab · 12/01/2012 13:11

Forgot tech women. If you work fine but don't pretend 5 mintues on skype is the same as being at home with your toddler.

EdithWeston · 12/01/2012 13:21

Thanks, CuriousMama - now I know what I'll be doing this evening once DCs are in bed.

zumm · 12/01/2012 13:27

Telly schmelly. I had to have an emcs (quite likely saved both our lives). After watching placenta woman, became convinved - in that nervous wreck newish mum way - that kid will hate me when he grows up. OK, now I've written that down, I realise it is...what did someone else say...batshit. Um, wibble, anyone on here had a csec and can report a good relationship with their kid/s? Gah. She's hit a raw nerve that placenta woman.

CuriousMama · 12/01/2012 13:28

How did she manage to keep her breasts so perky after breast feeding all 6?Envy

susiedaisy · 12/01/2012 16:07

The ring tone on the dancers phone was pathetic IMO

HelloShitty · 12/01/2012 17:55

I haven't watched this yet, but I know Daria! As soon as I heard it was going to feature elimination communication, I knew she'd be on it. Let's just say she doesn't really have a lot of respect for anyone who doesn't raise their children the way she does...

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2012 17:56

She seems terrifying Hello, and she is in my area Shock

OriginalJamie · 12/01/2012 17:57

zumm - I had an EMCS with DS1, failed to bf and I wasted a lot of time feeling guilty and worried about our relationship. But he is 11 now and I think our relationship is very strong. Of course he's my PFB and that creates an intensity all of its own, EMCS or not. Honestly, get your head straight and be glad your child and you got through birth, and all will be well

HelloShitty · 12/01/2012 18:07

Sparklingbrook - she used to go to our baby swimming group, but was booted out for being a complete loon not adhering to the double-wrap nappy system or something. She's not the friendliest of characters, that's for sure.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2012 18:11

My two are 9 and 12 and know how to poo and wee so I think I may be safe if I keep my head down Hello. Grin
