didn't enjoy one bit; Matt Smith is dire.... crap acting and plot ho-hum

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 30/12/2011 13:39

Enjoyable but a bit meh.

I'm also not a fan of Matt Smith's doctor. Too puppy like with no depth on most occasions.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 30/12/2011 21:12

i wildly disagree, i think he is capable of tremendous depth, more so than Tennant (of whom i am a fan). Smith's scenes at the end of series one, and this repeated line of his being an old doctor, are completely compelling imo. this is a very old man in a young man's body, i think, and i find Smith more than capable of playing that, with his Easter Island face and beanpole physicality.

SESthebrave · 30/12/2011 21:28

Aitch, I absolutely agree with MS playing an old Doctor in a young man's body. He does that very well. I also like the character he brings to the Doctor but I do think it will be interesting to see how he develops further with Amy and Rory no longer being companions.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 30/12/2011 21:37

to be fair, soupy did say most, but i reckon that makes her beef with Moff rather than Smith.

noeyedear · 31/12/2011 10:30

Aitch, I agree with you. When he say he's an 'old' doctor, you don't think he's 29. He has an old face, IMO. I liked it. Cheesy, but that's what you want on Christmas day. I thought the Bill Bailey and others characters were funny! After watching this, my DS wanted to watch some old doctor who's, so we watched Tom Bakers first episode on YouTube. He had that same manic, mad professor persona that MS is trying to portray. DT didn't do that (even though I thought he was great too) MS, IMO is much more true to the role than DT was.

I think the essence of the Doctor was summed up by the Third Doctor in the Time Warrior, when Sarah Jane first met him

SJ: Are you serious?
D3: About what I do, yes. Not necessarily the way I do it.

So the Doctor clowns, but there need to be the serious moments to give point to it all.
