Random, I agree. I remember one young girl in the last series, who can't have been much older than 13 or 14, sobbing at her sister's wedding because she knew that as she would be the eldest girl left at home she'd have to take over all the chores and look after her younger brothers and sisters Sad

VivaLeBeaver · 13/12/2011 21:45

There was a traveller girl at dd,s school who wanted to go to secondary but wasn't allowed and she was so depressed at the end of Yr 6. She knew she was going to be cleaning for the next six years while her friends went to school.

RandomMess · 13/12/2011 21:47
Sad
cerealqueen · 13/12/2011 21:47

Can't help but wonder where they put all their stuff in those caravans. Where will Princess put her all her new toys? Xmas Confused

HomeEcoGnomist · 13/12/2011 21:47

They all certainly look a lot older than their years - hard life.
The toddler in hot pants had me audibly drawing breath
Those outfits must cost so much

katkitya · 13/12/2011 21:48

I know it's terrible how their education just ends and the elder girls seem to take over their own mother's role.

zookeeper · 13/12/2011 21:49

I'd have thought she would have been dressed up to the nines for christmas day..

Sparklingbaubles · 13/12/2011 21:51

A dress with a head. Grin

JennyPiccolo · 13/12/2011 21:51

It is really sad. We used to live next to travellers when i was a kid, and it's quite a horrible existence for a lot of women. My mum used to teach the mother of the family how to read, but it had to be a secret, because her husand would have beat her if he knew about it.

LilRedWG · 13/12/2011 21:53

What's with the being late for weddings?

Meglet · 13/12/2011 21:54

I'm watching but those women have a shitty life Sad.

I reckon a lot of those mums are my age but they look 20 years older.

SantasCave · 13/12/2011 21:56

1 mile of fabric??!!! Shock

Ye gods!

[faints]

LilRedWG · 13/12/2011 21:57

I didn't think she was going to fit through the church doors.

katkitya · 13/12/2011 22:00

It's no life for a woman.

scarletforya · 13/12/2011 22:03

Fascinating viewing.

They must have antifreeze for blood in those skimpy outfits in the snow! Xmas Shock

VonHerrBurton · 14/12/2011 01:04

"You've got your Coco Chanel, Dior, Gucci, 'Swan Princess' "

Pissed myself.

I bet Vera Wang's called her team together in panic.

SantaDesperatelySeeksSedatives · 14/12/2011 13:10

Feel sorry Lavinia. Her new husband clearly doesn't have much respect for her, to keep her waiting so long, in the cold and show her up like that.

I was a bit Xmas Hmm at the narrator saying that the community take paying respect to the dead very seriously yet the groom and his mates were making lewd comments at someone's graveside. Yeah coz that is so respectful isn't it?

I actually gave myself hiccups by all the intake of breath at the hideous revealing outfits, especially at the mass holy communion. Xmas Blush

Seriously, do these girls really like each other? Or is it a case of "ooh she looks vile, but I'll tell her she looks great so my outfit will look better!" Only they are all playing the same bitchy game. So they all look rough erm bad.

katkitya · 14/12/2011 13:24

I think they are playing up for the cameras tbh. Ive met many Irish travellers in my time and I've never seen them in labels.

zookeeper · 14/12/2011 17:47

I can't imagine they sit around in muted shades of beige and grey off-camera though...

mrsjay · 14/12/2011 21:35

loved it the last girl who got married dress was eating her i loved it , and where were the grooms ?? down the pub lol i saw a guy who was a best man has been in itbefore im not sure if it was his own wedding or something , I also love paddy hes great , my guilty pleasure ,

GoingForGoalWeight · 15/12/2011 19:36

Where to start!

i do like the Gypsy programmes but i thought it was going to be centered around their Christmas preperations not about weddings etc

The bride in the back of the Limo made me laugh all that visible under the mass of netting was her bright orange head.

I have an internet friend whom lives in Stoke and apparently the Gypsy girls are viscious and beat up other teenage girls for a fun kind of game.

Paddy really loves his wife..

teahouse · 15/12/2011 20:56

I have heard rumours of a Big Fat Gypsy Funeral one-off; yes please...bring it on.

Where do they get their money from? Most of them seem to be quite wealthy (those dresses must costs a fortune) & I can't believe there are that many drives to tarmac.

There was a settled gypsy family where I grew up and every summer the kids didn't go to school but sold strawberries...can't believe that can bring in the cash - or maybe I'm in the wrong job!

The traditional women's roles seems such a contrast with the 'tarty' girls outfits...how to catch your man made large. Fascinating watching

No mortgage, no council tax, no income tax, no NI contributions... that makes life cheaper!

katkitya · 16/12/2011 00:36

I was at a new hairdressers the other day when four of them came in. One wanted a cut and blow dry but decided to dry it herself so paid a fraction of the cost, using the hair dressers hair drier!!! You have to admire their cheek.

GoingForGoalWeight · 16/12/2011 01:38

I had my garden renovated 2 years ago, The workers were quite polite etc. Did an excellent job and were cheap. I realised after a couple og days the workers were related. At the end of the job their FIL came to pick them up to take them somewhere, i chatted with the FIL in my dining room and the other workers (his relatives) were out of my house waiting in their van.

Later that evening i noticed my brand new phone was gone. It was on the dining room table as i was chatting with the FIL. He had taken it, there was nobody else in the house just him and me with the phone infront of my eyes. It was expensive pay as you go.
