So, when they married, Zainab took Masood's first name as her surname??????? so does that mean that Affia is now Affia Tamwar?
Is that how it works?
In a muslim marriage does the woman take the man's first name as her surname?

some people do if its the norm in their culture but really according to the religion we are supposed to just keep our same names upon getting married, i do know people who do this though putting the dh 1st name as their last name, because children are supposed to take dad's first name as their last name if you dont have a 'family name' so the mum may be doing that to match the children. cos traditionally names show the lineage so if someone called masood had a child he will be called whatever bin masood to show 'son of masood' but sometimes people dont put the 'bin'
but some ppl just use the family name instead so then it works kind of the same as western method

I see. So Affia and Tamwars child would be Joe Tamwar

Affia took tamwars name she wanted to be more western her name is affia masood so maybe they would have baby masood , rather than tamwar ?

in islam the woman is suppossed to keep her fathers name after marriage and not take her husbands name, as surname is supposed to represent heritage, clan/tribe etc and you dont change your family just because you are married.

they could have baby masood or baby tamwar as it both shows lineage
