We need to talk about dad

Anybody else watching? The boys are so lovely, particularly Henry. It's awful to watch him try to make sense of what his dad did and how his mum reacted top it. I hope making the programme has helped him to get the answers he needs.

I think everyone on this talk board should read the note henry posted on his facebook music page here www.facebook.com/henryjohnsonmusic
Who are we to make brash judgements on this families past/future life when we only stepped into they're shoes for all of 40 minutes!
That is quite an ordeal for the family as a whole, why are we always so desperate to pin the blame onto someone and scrutinise, you don't know what you would have done in this situation! its hard to imagine for many of you small minded gossip mongerers but Imagine the courage it has taken them all to face up to that on television
this lad is in his 20s and probably more emotionally intelligent than the lot of us put together and his outlook is remarkably more positive and feasible, why are people so keen to focus on the shock and horror
you must read the note he posted here, its moving and modest by the looks of the comments he's receiving www.facebook.com/henryjohnsonmusic
shame on you cynics pah

Joan, I don't think I was cynical. I didn't watch all the show, so don't think I can comment on the programme.
I was astonished, and in awe of Henry's singing voice, (I think he is beyond brilliant!)

Henry's problem was Joan that he continues to protect his family at cost to himself. Protecting a violent man and a dysfunctional family. I feel no shame for commenting.

The facebook page is fab - he has it made and i was pleasantly surprised with the music

NotnOtter · 23/11/2011 21:12

Joan just to add - has anybody actually criticised Henry on here?

ScarlettIsWalking · 23/11/2011 21:41

No one has critisised henry where did you get that from?

I feel he was a beautiful human being inside and out. He saw his mother dying and bleeding and everyone swept it under the carpet with no explanation and then took the man responsible back into the family home. He is so obviously suffering. His mother was the victim of a horribly violent crime so perhaps her judgement was skewed. She said when she brought it up After she took him back her husband would roll his eyes...unreal

I've just watched this. It is such a bizarre situation and what a strange way for the family to deal with it. I found it very odd that they used to refer to themselves as the Sunday supplement family before the incident as their family life was so perfect. Who would do that? And then to not talk about it and put Henry down every time he tried. All very, very odd.

Goodness - no-one has been anything but complimentary and full of admiration for Henry, his sensitivity, maturity, his way of navigating a situation that many of us would sink beneath!
The only 'gossip' has been incomprehension over his mother's choices, and failure to feel sympathy towards his father - both of which henry alluded to as feelings he experiences. Along with everything else!
Peopel have also appreciated that the younger brother has had a different experience and so will feel differently - an opinion the brothers shared on camera.

And the fact is that programmes like this will instigate debate, discussion and a certain amount of projection "how could she do that, I couldn't" etc. It's natural and obvious.
