Caught up with the Rosie episode last night. Once again a brilliant portrayal of the reality in some peoples relationships. There seems to be a recurrent theme about boundaries within relationships - i.e. that they are very blurred, it's as if every character crosses and pushes boundaries all the time and that the relationships are very rarely in tune with each other. Which to me seems actually a fairly normal part of the human condition.
We want to be part of a couple, or bring up kids, but we are essentially selfish. In the bad old days, it was acceptable for men to be as selfish as they liked and women simply had to suffer. But now women too have the option to focus on their own egos, and can exhibit the same selfishness.
In many ways Connie is the thread that weaves in and out of these unbalanced relationships - she absorbs this behaviour and as a result has very little sense of self (or appears to). She's drawn into their arguments and gameplans and she lies and cheats in the same way that they do.
And Rosie, what a brilliant character but what a comedown. I sadistically enjoyed that episode, seeing her dubious morals put to the test.
At the end after she lost the case did her husband say to Harry "See, we men rule" or was it "see, women rule"?
