Peter Gordon was a real person who worked with cousin Patrick at the Foreign Office. The question is whether Patrick Gordon is Patrick Crawley or Peter Gordon pretending to be him based on what he learned during their friendship.

hmmmn bit of a contrived coincidence the choosing of Gordon as a surname.
