she looks 'conventional' without her red lippy.

I like it much more than I thought I would, but it looks like it would be so COLD. Those concrete floors in winter, shudder.

Backinthebox · 05/10/2011 22:04

£850000?!!!!!! Bloody hell! Given they didn't have to buy their land, or even the barn, that's unbelievable!

I'm just getting to the end of a 5 year never ending toil rebuild and extend of a Grade 2 listed house - doubling the size of the house and adding things like a ground source heat pump and a giant hand-made oak staircase. We have also built a garage, annex, stables and done a lot of paddock-work along the way (drainage and fencing over 6 acres.) The house is deep in a forest in a fairly exclusive area (we have several celebrities among our neighbours.) I reckon we have not spent much more than they spent on their build! And I'd rather live in my house.

mistressploppy · 05/10/2011 22:05

Too tryhard imo

thenightsky · 05/10/2011 22:43

watching on +4 now.... why would you jam your bathroom into a cubby hole when you had all that space to play with? Fools.

fivegomadindorset · 05/10/2011 22:48

I didn't like it. Think they may regret only haveing two bedrooms.

thenightsky · 05/10/2011 22:52

That could have been stunning - all that space and all that money wasted. Don't like their tacky blackpool fun fair style collection either.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 05/10/2011 22:56

That was a weird one. Lovely building but she was awful. All that pretentious bollocks about wanting to be different for the sake of being different.

Yuck.

Did think it was interesting that she looked hugely more conventional by the end of the process Grin

minko · 05/10/2011 22:57

Sorry but it looks like it would be freeeezing in winter! And how much would that amount of underfloor heating cost to run!? Even with insulation the walls were still very thin and the roof had glassy gaps in. Brrrrrr...

minko · 05/10/2011 22:58

'Their collections' = mountains of knitted teddies and old tat...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/10/2011 23:22

Bonkers as conkers. And I agree with thenightsky about the bathrooms - why have all that space and stick the bathroom into a concrete silo? Though I did like the other silo-as-spiral-staircase more. And only two bedrooms was madness too, imo - though maybe guests can stay with MIL and FIL in a proper house?

I cannot imagine living with all those objects from their 'collections' in those museum style cases either - some of them gave me the heebie jeebies. And I wouldn't want to have my young dd on the ground floor and me on the next floor up - just feels wrong. There's going to be little or no privacy either - just imagine if you have a mammoth poo or fart in that concrete bathroom - the sound is going to echo round the living space, and it will funnel the smell upwards too.

Very, very strange,

Moodykat · 05/10/2011 23:26

Weird. That is all I can say! Could've been amazing!

thenightsky · 06/10/2011 09:29

Kev was struggling to say nice things, poor geezer.

YourCallIsImportant · 06/10/2011 09:39

I watched this too and said to DH that she'd have to tone down that look if she wanted the school gate mums to let their DDs play with hers Grin. Like Alibaba said, her look was massively toned down by the end. Maybe it was OK for the London School of Art, but not for rural Braintree?

How on earth could you afford to heat the place? We're paying £150/month for gas and electric for our 4 bed newbuild and it's insulated to the nth degree.

ColdSancerre · 12/10/2011 21:08

mousyfledermaus · 12/10/2011 21:08

mousyfledermaus · 12/10/2011 21:17

I'm enjoying this series immensly.

ColdSancerre · 12/10/2011 21:22

Me too, it's my favourite programme, this and Autumnwatch.

durhambound · 12/10/2011 21:52

The view is spectacular but it looks a big tent from outside.

Did they say its took 4 years and its still not finished.

SazZaVoom · 12/10/2011 21:54

Yes - started in 2007

ColdSancerre · 12/10/2011 21:56

I do think it will never be finished.

mousyfledermaus · 13/10/2011 15:24

the house in bath is for sale

mousyfledermaus · 19/10/2011 21:39

it is now officially the season of bonkers projects.
