Who will win?

I want Zoe to win, but have a feeling nerves will get the better of her, allowing Colin to take the crown ...

Zoe won the judges' vote but lost the public one - so they came 3rd

yULeYSEES · 18/12/2005 17:07

cheers

I've rewatched Darren's last dance and I'm not convinced it was that good, really. (Better than Colin's though, that was a disaster). To me it looked like half a routine and then half Darren picking Lilia up and swinging her about. In fairness I think she has done well to showcase the strengths he has as a dancer, and he is a very likeable personality. Technically I think Colin is a far superior dancer, and do wonder what might have happened if they hadn't have done that ghastly dummy dance at the end.

thecattleareALOHing · 18/12/2005 18:01

Watching Darren was like watching some hodcarrier off the street lumping around in a penguin suit! He is such a TERRIBLE dancer. Poor Colin, he was well and truly robbed. I missed the dummy dance but I must say it sounds shocking - but he was just such a good dancer and I feel for him. I did wonder if there was a touch of racism about it as I couldn't explain why that useless Darren had won it otherwise.

FestiveFrex · 18/12/2005 18:14

Do you seriously think racism had anything to do with it?? I find that somewhat offensive actually.

Why can't people simply have voted for the person who showed the greatest overall improvement rather than for the better dancer? I voted for Darren because he came into the competition a fairly stolid lump and ended up a very good dancer with such enthusiasm for the whole genre. Colin, whilst clearly the more talented dancer, started out very good and didn't show the same degree of improvement. People will vote for different reasons. Did they state at the outset that people should vote for the better dancer? No. People are born with different levels of talent. Does that mean that people with less talent should never be celebrated for what they actually achieve?

I think bringing racism into it is offensive to both finalists.

thecattleareALOHing · 18/12/2005 18:24

Well, of course, there are NO racist people in England are there?

Darren started rubbish and was rubbish at the end! I've rarely seem someone with so little grace.

Epiffany · 18/12/2005 18:27

Zoe ahhh
the nation judged her on her filandering not her dancing...
I wanted Darren to win, he was so out of his depth and so embraced it, won in the spirit of the comp, if not the true elegance
By Racism do you mean cos CJ is Welsh?

tribpot · 18/12/2005 19:08

"I've rarely seem someone with so little grace"

Apart from Dennis Taylor, perhaps. That paso doble was quite the most amazing thing I have seen in a long time - and not a in a good way! (Anyone who watches SCD - It Takes Two will have seen Maradona making Dennis Taylor look positively talented on the Italian version of SCD this week).

It was a really good competition, with three excellent finalists, and I could have voted for all three of them for different reasons.

JonesTheSteamingSanta · 18/12/2005 19:33

Colin was definitely the better dancer, but that last 'dummy' dance was a bit odd!!!! I think Erin had good intentions - wanted to show that Colin could dance on his own etc. - but it was a bit naff and twee, really.

Darren did show a huge improvement, and I think Lilia was very astute and showcased what 'he' could do well. Also, seemed a very popular bloke.

But for Darren to have even made it to the last two, he must have had more public votes than both Colin and Zoe, as he was at the bottom after the initial judge's vote. I don't think Colin's free dance necessarily messed it up for him. I think Darren was in front of both Zoe and Colin even before that last dance.

Really wanted Colin to win, but don't mind that Darren did!!

tribpot · 18/12/2005 19:43

Yes, I've been kept occupied for the last few weeks (not full-time!) working out how the public vote scoring must have gone for Zoe to come in the bottom two when she was top after the first round, particularly when people like James have escaped being in the bottom 2 as a result.

Last night Zoe could score 4 minimum and Darren could score 4 maximum, Colin could get 5 maximum but if he was first, Darren could only score 3 and would thus have been eliminated.

So I reckon they all scored 4 and it came down to the number of public votes.

thecattleareALOHing · 18/12/2005 20:11

well, obviously the welshness wouldn't have helped

Poor colin, he must be wondering what the hell happened

welshboris · 18/12/2005 20:14

No? Surely his Welshness didnt hinder him??

vic891 · 19/12/2005 07:07

Zoe was by far the best dancer, but she didn't win because these shows are more about popularity contests than talent. Hence a couple of the early 'leavers' who aren't that well known beating Denis, Fiona (yeuch) etc. Thought Zoe should have won, but didn't surprise me when Darren did 'cos he's a nice, solid working class chap (honestly not trying to be patronising - I'm from Barnsley too )

tribpot · 19/12/2005 07:56

I'd say it was a combination of talent & personality. The three best dancers made it to the final, but the final itself was decided on personality. (Barring that godawful dummy dance of Colin's).
