Hello folks.

I'm in the market for a new TV series to get obsessive about and kill time on a long haul flight.

I don't have much time at the minute to watch telly but things I have previously obsessed over enjoyed include: 24, Lost, True Blood, Six Feet Under, Dexter, ER. I really want to veg out on the plane and lose myself in something trashy but entertaining.

Have been considering the following:
Breaking Bad
House
The Walking Dead
The Wire

Any thoughts on these? Or anything. Am open to suggestions of any genre...except science fiction. Can't be doing with Star Trek (in any of its incarnations or the like).

Cheers.

Breaking Bad is AMAZING. The best I've seen since the sopranos (which is the best TV in the world, FACT).

So get that.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/09/2011 20:48

I love the ones you say you like.

I've also really enjoyed house and mad men.

picnicbasketcase · 19/09/2011 20:53

Bones
Lie To Me
Game of Thrones
The Killing
Arrested Development
24
Heroes
Lost
Flight of the Conchords
Mad Men
Prison Break
Glee

Bit of an odd mixture but good, honest

VivaLeBeaver · 19/09/2011 21:23

I'm desperate to see game of thrones but it's not on DVD yet.

GeeinItLaldy · 19/09/2011 21:35

I've seen Game of Thrones. Was sceptical about it because DP is a huge fan of the books and our taste in fiction is poles apart usually but I loved it! Much of it is filmed in my hometown...there is a small chance that I may be arrested for stalking come the start of filming for the next series Grin

Misfits

WinduhPAYNE · 19/09/2011 21:38

The Good Wife

GeeinItLaldy · 19/09/2011 21:40

Downloading series 1 of Breaking Bad as I type. And series 1 of Spooks (yes, yes...I know I'm 10 series behind the rest of the world but better late then never, eh?).

Still open to suggestions for anything else I may not yet have considered I have a lot of flight/airport hanging about time to kill.

House definitely.

hiccymapops · 19/09/2011 21:43

Supernatural's very good too.

GeeinItLaldy · 19/09/2011 21:46

Saw Misfits when it was on TV.

Don't know anything about The Good Wife...will check it out. And Mad Men looks like a possibility.

Used to watch Heroes and Lie to Me (lost interest in both) although could be persuaded to give Lie to Me another chance just 'cos I love Tim Roth.

Angry boys

Mspontipine · 19/09/2011 21:54

Nip/Tuck's fantastic. I've got several boxsets. Glam, sexy, gritty, scarey, funny and sometimes downright wierd!!!

picnicbasketcase · 19/09/2011 21:58

Sorry OP, didn't read the first post properly and missed that you'd already seen 24 and Lost. Shame really, cos those would fill a lot of time.
Buffy and Angel? They're fun but might be a bit daft for some.

aristocat · 19/09/2011 22:35

Hung
Modern Family
Boardwalk Empire
Fringe

brighthair · 20/09/2011 09:08

Bones
Prison break
Ghost whisperer

CeliaFate · 20/09/2011 09:50

The Killing - Forbrydelsen. It's Danish with subtitles. Awesome!

MetalSian · 20/09/2011 10:10

Supernatural
Prison Break
Sons of Anarchy
Lie to Me

LOVE them all!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 20/09/2011 12:25

I concur with most of these and would add The Pillars of the Earth. Centres on the building of a medieval cathedral and takes in political alliances and double-crossing, the church throwing its weight around and being corrupt, a love story or two, and the genuinely brilliant Eddie Redmayne portraying his character growing up on screen, completely convincingly and engrossingly. I loved it.

clangermum · 24/09/2011 13:44

The Wire is brilliant but took me ages to get into - probably about 3-4 episodes as the dialogue is tricky and I didn't see why I'd like any of the characters. So possibly not an easy watch. Only kept going because everyone kept telling me it was the best series ever - would have given up otherwise.

Sopranos and The Good Wife much more accessible.
Six Feet Under
Big Love - no mentions of this yet? Polygamy in the burbs. It's a bit like Six Feet Under in that you wonder why nobody thought to do a series on this before.

flatmouse · 24/09/2011 14:56

The Dollhouse (only did two series by the looks of it and we're now on series 2)
The Closer (series 6 i think currently on TV, we started at series 1 and are now on series 2)
Nikita
Life
Castle

(I seem to focus on US tv somehow!)

kelzas · 24/09/2011 19:38

Angry Boys - This passed by too many people when this was shown on BBC3 in the summer - Chris Lilley is a genius

tippytap · 24/09/2011 21:36

The Vampire Diaries, since I see that you like True Blood.

40notTrendy · 24/09/2011 21:39

House
The Sopranos
The Wire (but agree it takes a while to hear the accents)
Life on Mars

Waltraut · 24/09/2011 21:53

Firefly. I don't like sci-fi all that much but I have a soft spot for this. Written by Joss Whedon and only 12 episodes and a (n inferior) film called Serenity.

Second Forbrydelsen. Best TV in AGES.
