Panicking now - just watching end of Dr Who and Amy and Rory seem to be leaving the doctor :(
Is this true?? :(

Lately I just haven't cared if we forget to watch / Sky+ Doctor Who, it used to be unmissable viewing. The moment they decided to stop trying and just made every episode an homage to the end of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, playing the time game ('we set up the cage, and we set up the gun.') was the moment I just couldn't be arsed anymore. It's a shame, because I think Matt Smith could be a great Doctor. Considering how good Stephen Moffat's individual episodes were in previous seasons, since he took over as show runner, it's been a massive downhill slide.

LilyBolero · 18/09/2011 13:21

I love Matt Smith's doctor, I love Stephen MOffat's writing, I think there have been some STUNNING episdoes.

I am so disappointed that I have found it so boring, especially these latest episodes after the break. Where is the Stephen Moffat of Joking Apart and Coupling? I had such high hopes. It all seems to be rather repetitive to me or I must be too thick to get the most out of it. The one with the dolls' house was like the Chloe Webber Olympics one, I am fed up of the "shock" that maybe the Doctor is considered a baddie/enemy by many aliens, the weeping angels have been ruined (they send you back in time, not attack you!) and River Song is sooooo annoying now having started brilliantly in The Library. The only one I like is Rory. Matt Smith is OK but they should have tried something different, I nominate Tom Conti!

ShowOfHands · 18/09/2011 18:04

I love Rory and hereby petition for Damian Lewis to be the Doctor next. Amy you can keep.

LilyBolero · 19/09/2011 10:21

I like Rory too, he reminds me of dh! What I think Matt Smith gets brilliantly, more so than either Christopher Ecclestone or David Tennant, is the way he is very obviously 'not human' and is also 'ageless' - ie although he is a young actor, you can really believe he is 900!

Don't know who I'd like as the next doctor, hope Matt Smith stays a while longer though (he's booked for next year). Would be quite fun to have an Eddie Izzard doctor, in lipstick and high heels, but not very likely...

I don't see how we can see river song again unless they mess around with the time lines. Surely one that we've seen Mel turn into river song, she will always be Mel now? As her timeline keeps going backwards?

scaevola · 19/09/2011 14:32

Tryingtoleave: I'm not sure that works. We met her at her death/saving in the library, and we saw her birth in the Demons Run episodes. So her backwards timeline has run its course. Are we already be in a timey wimey loop thingie?

scaevola · 19/09/2011 14:34

Or perhaps it os simpler. as she's Time Lord(ish), can fly the TARDIS, plus has some other time travel device; perhaps any version of her can pop up at any time or place?

tryingtoleave · 19/09/2011 14:37

I am trying to twist my head around that, scaevola. But surely every time the doctor meets her she is getting young? That's why she was so sad that the time would come when he wouldn't know her - she thought that timeline was inescapable... But probably they will find a way to bring her back for the end.

scaevola · 19/09/2011 14:47

Whose timeline are we actually following in this series (I think I could get endlessly confused here!). Might it be Rory's? In which case, the Doctor, River, and any random gangers can presumably flit in and out on a completely different wobbly wobbly (non-linear) timeframe.

River's timeline isn't linear: it went death/saving (Doctor not knowing her), adult, possibly child (if she were TIA), adult again (various eps), baby (Demons Run - and overlapping her presence in the prison, but never meeting), adult again (Doctor knowing her, Demon's Run), Mel, River again - new in body and she doesn't know the Doctor, but he knows her. Wibble!

LilyBolero · 19/09/2011 18:16

River definitely isn't on a linear timeline, and also, she is in the last episode!

tryingtoleave · 20/09/2011 12:00

Surely they are all linear, in that they only go in one direction, even while moving through time? So we see river at different ages ( what is TIA) but in her life she is always gettin older - she doesn't suddenly change into a baby. But the doctor is going the other way, so she is always younger for him. If she sees the doctor again as an river song it should be something the doctor has already experienced.

I expect she will reappear, however, because dw always CHEATS. I don't know why I'm putting so much effort into thinking about it.

LilyBolero · 20/09/2011 23:47

Oh, yes, to River she is linear, but I don't think we are seeing her in a linear time-line.

Quenelle · 21/09/2011 14:26

I wish it was the last of Amy and Rory I'm sick of seeing them in a clinch and hearing I thought I'd LOST you. You idiot! half a dozen times every episode.

I like River Song though, even though I can't get my head around all the timelines she's on. I had trouble following Back to the Future though.

I think Matt Smith is a good Doctor but the writing isn't doing him justice. Does anyone else think of a young Johnnie Ball when they watch him?

I would vote for Damian Lewis as anything the new Doctor.
