it's driving me nuts - has Mirry(!) been struck dumb are the rest of them blind?

I know - its only a drama!

Top continuity - Naomi opened a door with her hair loose, by the time she was on the other side it was in a bun!

kleist · 13/12/2005 21:59

so, did it begin with Mirandas funeral?

kleist · 13/12/2005 22:00

Turq, I noticed that too! Thought I'd had too many beers ...

MistleToo · 13/12/2005 22:27

ridiculous

Tennant was excellent though

OP posts:
kleist · 13/12/2005 22:28

I'm not a Tennant fan at all. He's a creep. Good at playing a creep I guess.

santaslittleunicorn · 13/12/2005 22:47

I agree Tennant makes a great creep....
but sexy?..
Good god.....
NO WAY (unless you like rodents that is!)

Without reading anyone else here.. I shall just spout forth.

The book may have been a good 'escapist' read.
But...
I felt rather 'uncomfortable' with this 'drama' (perhaps I spend too much time on MN - or, maybe, the producers of this prog should have spent a bit more time here)

IMO it totally understated/underplayed the effects of abuse/violence and made it into some sort of entertainment.

either way I thought it was totally unrealistic (apart from the creepy Tennant)and am afraid the very beautiful blonde women were largely... er
wooden.

I know it was a 'drama' but when you take on serious issues like this please, please make them a bit more believable.

Producers/actors try reading MN a bit more.

Am confused - can someone explain please why, in the flashback at the end, you see Miranda's friend (the one who married Brendan and then died in the bath) arriving in Australia? Did I miss something?

thecattleareALOHing · 13/12/2005 22:59

It was Miranda in disguise as her! FOr some improbable reason Brendan gave Mirry her friend's passport (along with lots of incriminating things about himself).

BonyBethleheM · 13/12/2005 23:07

Aha! Thanks Aloha (great xmas name bth). I wondered if that was it but then couldn't see the logic in using a dead woman's passport if she was supposed to be dead herself.

Maybe I'm just being thick - bit sleep deprived at the moment!

thecattleareALOHing · 13/12/2005 23:08

Nah, I just think lots of it made no sense at all!

sevensuzyswongsaswimming · 14/12/2005 00:44

nothing like the book then
although there is a passage in it about moving to Australia to escape the image one's family has developed of one ( brilliant idea I say). Sounds like they had a pushy zealot to do the teleplay treatment.

myrrhthamoo · 14/12/2005 00:46

Didn't watch it. Haven't read the book. Don't know why I'm here really

I hope he makes a good Dr Who (there ya go, semi pertinent comment)

sevensuzyswongsaswimming · 14/12/2005 04:56

desparate bid for attention moo, that's why you're here. S'pose you'll be telling us that living in a village near manchester is driving you mad next

Epiffany · 14/12/2005 08:32

of course she had to use the dead womans passport
he was in prison for her murder, one passport used, one on dead person, out he gets
simple really!
Took huge liberties with teh script but then since so many people knew the ending from the book I guess they felt obliged to mix it up a little.

crunchie · 14/12/2005 09:34

I really enjoyed this, a nice light bit of escapism, beats that one with Tamzin Outhwaite anyway.

But the continuity thing bugged the hell out of me. Not just the Naomi hair thing, but every other scene with Miranda. One minute she had perfect ice blond hair, the next minute she had roots showing. It was really really bugging me!!

I missed the second part and reading this am even more confused. Can anyone be bothered to give me a rundown?

Agree with santaslittleunicorn and batters by the way. NF is uncomfortable reading. Always come away feeling slightly grubby.

kleist · 14/12/2005 11:41

So, someone tell me, how does the book end? I haven't read it.

kleist · 14/12/2005 11:45

ponybells, I'll try. Basically Creepo jilts Mirry-with-bad-roots-problem's sister on wedding day, miraculously weds Mirry's best mate (rich one with glasses, forgotten her name) that same morning (bloody good registry service they've got there), knocks off best mate and inherits her dosh. For some bizarre reason Creepo gives Mirry a box of stuff that belonged to now-dead mate which includes some details of his past including a sister. Mirry traces her, finds out that Creepo's probably killed his parents and is even more of a creepo than she'd thought. Creepo, now rich, has a new girlfriend who Mirry tries to warn. Turns out Creepo is beating new girlfriend who runs off to hide out at Mirry's flat. Mirry gets her to stay with her parents instead. Creepo turns up, rapes Mirry and we're led to believe he kills her. In actual fact she sets him up and has escaped to Australia with new girlfriend.

Enlightened?

kleist · 14/12/2005 11:46

Creepo gets 22 years no parole.

ponybells · 14/12/2005 12:02

What a load of old codswallop (with all due respect to TheFish).

Thnaks for the info though. I thought the first half was a bit far-fetched, the second sounds like it flew in from outer space!

Was the book better or worse? More believeable or not? If anyone has had the strength to do both, that is!

papaya · 14/12/2005 12:31

help - i forgot to record this for my sister!! DOes anyone know if its being repeated?!?!??!?!?
