Anyone watching this tonight?
Watching it on BBC News at the moment segment on it.

OP posts:
MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:30

A lot of it looks like crowd control rather than proper teaching.

HuwEdwards · 14/07/2011 23:30

it's really quite dull, the classroom of yer average state school...

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/07/2011 23:30

I want to take James home Sad

And Maisie is sly.

Interesting class divide tho, there are those who are aware of the cameras and being extra good, those who are playing up to them and the ones who don't give a flying fuck and carry on as normal Grin

MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:31

Maisie's parents need to learn what is acceptable for a 8/9 year old to see and do.

Sandalwood · 14/07/2011 23:32

I think it's wrong that it's such a surprise for the parents.
The teachers should perhaps be more honest in reports/parents evenings etc all along.
Skirting around words like 'easily distracted/chas too much etc' and making sure it sounds positive isn't getting the message to parents.

MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:32

Apocalypse me too. How sad to have a child so keen to learn and a mother who doesn't seem to care less.

MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:32

Also how lacking in understanding are James' teacher and the HT on what the real issues are.

Sandalwood · 14/07/2011 23:33

...and it certainly shouldn't be coming as a surprise to the teacher.

HuwEdwards · 14/07/2011 23:33

Sandalwood agree!

ggirl · 14/07/2011 23:34

exactly sandlewood

school reports that are truthful

TheCrackFox · 14/07/2011 23:36

Completely agree with you sandlewood.

drzeus · 14/07/2011 23:37

OMG, what's with singing Wonderwall in assembly!

snice · 14/07/2011 23:37

what an odd choice of song for a primary school assembly

wrigglerstea · 14/07/2011 23:37

Why are they singing along to Wonderwall?

snice · 14/07/2011 23:38

X-post!

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/07/2011 23:38

Haha, Maisie's had the rug pulled from under her !

ggirl · 14/07/2011 23:38

wonder if the teachers are glad they did this on national tv

crazynanna · 14/07/2011 23:40

She said she doesn't swear half as much now! Grin Progress

MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:40

The sad thing is that they probably think they are doing a good job.

tallulah · 14/07/2011 23:41

I don't think I could work in that environment. Why are classrooms set out like that with everyone doing their own thing and moving around?

Didn't think that teacher seemed to even like children.

simpson · 14/07/2011 23:42

TBH I would not be impressed if my DC went to that school.

Lessons look boring, teacher seemed to miss a lot of the messing around. Although she did admit that later on...

I certainly would not have been impressed if my child was placed next to a disruptive child. Seems like its an easy way to try and control the class ie getting other kids to do the teachers work iyswim.

Felt sorry for Jamie though....

MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:43

I was surprised to see a year 4 classroom set up like a reception class - all sitting on large tables. Not sure that is conducive to learning.

MollieO · 14/07/2011 23:44

I thought it was very sad that neither his mother nor his teacher realised what a real star James was. Surely most teachers would love to teach a child who was so enthusiastic about learning.

simpson · 14/07/2011 23:45

mollieO - it did not seem very inspiring I agree Confused

simpson · 14/07/2011 23:46

so Sad that he did not think his mum wanted to see his certificates
