Best Kids' TV Show of All Time?

MeantToStopAtTwo · 03/07/2011 16:14

I've been watching old videos/youtube clips of classic TV shows this weekend with the kiddos. My vote goes for Rainbow as the best kids' show of all time. It's educational, entertaining and I still find it engaging viewing today as an adult.

I've also been very impressed with an old 70s ITV show called Hickory House for the same reasons, which barely gets a mention these days.

I'm less keen on the BBC's Play School which seems dry in comparison.

What would you get your vote?

I have fond memories of the flumps - pootle and pertle (sp?). But I'm reluctant to go watch any clips because it will probably be crap nothing like I remember it...

Best? Dunno. Not Rainbow though - it had its weird moments. And then there's that episode...

Animal Magic, probably. I loved that show, and Johnny Morris's silly animal voices. Take Hart as well - very good. Vision On? Also excellent - loved the Humphreys (yes? that's what they were called, isn't it?) Why Don't You - that was always good.

Oh pffft! Nothing wrong with Simpsons seasons 1-9 for children aged 5/6+. So yes to me early Simpsons is a great kids program. You don't stop being a kid when you turn 5 Hmm

Plenty of the merchandise is aimed for 7+ years. No-one remember Bartmania all those years ago?

A lot of the episodes have contained great morals and others have been really touching e.g Lisa on Ice, Bart sells his Soul, Marge Be Not Proud, Mother Simpson and Lisa's Substitute.

Anyway, I must not be the only person who thinks this is can be a kids show, otherwise it wouldn't have been voted as The Greatest Kids TV Show Wink

As a parent it can be hard sometimes but I find only letting my child have 15 minutes of tv a day it will help keep the bad thing on tv hidden. Hope that this helps. I also think the best tv show of all is river dale as it gives my 6 year old am inside to the real world.GrinWink

Original Dangermouse and I think Horrible Histories will deservedly be a future 'classic'.

I liked How which was mentioned upthread and Black Beauty and Timeslip, I was probably about 12 when they were on. I don't remember much from when I was very young apart from Blue Peter and wooden tops type programmes.

mum2jakie · 08/05/2021 18:07

Mr Benn for classic kids TV.

Some of the modern stuff is great though. I miss my kids being into Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly. Teen Titans Go and The Amazing World of Gum-Ball are really funny too.
