although I do feel for Tina tonight.

I love Julia so much. When she said tonight she wouldnt mind being in jail because she'd get on with all the girls and be the guvnors pet.

Please get rid of those aunties, someone. Im begging you.

I couldnt work out Anna and Eddie either. I think he got the chance of a good job so went to Germany. I cant see why this made them split up though.

I think Ken's grandson is lying about the break in and wants Kevs money. Katie didnt look very impressed with baby Hope did she? I wonder if she changes her mind?

Rainydaze · 11/06/2011 21:50

Workshy Eddie Windass wouldn't go to Germany for a job though, would he? He had it too good at home. I wonder if there was a problem with the actor, in real life. It all happened so quickly and nobody mentions him now! What about the adopted daughter? She would talk about him. Odd.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/06/2011 22:11

The Eddie thing is very unsatisfactory, that family had turned into a great unit, it's all highly implausible.

LordOfTheFlies · 11/06/2011 23:00

The Windasses were evil when they were conning poor Tinas dad (Joe?) out of his kitchen money. Then they move and become all nice -even Gary- and get jobs right on their doorsteps ( as in Stenders) and get welcomed with open arms.

kitkatya · 12/06/2011 07:14

I am also wondering if there's something going on with the actor. It was so out of the blue.

Corrie's full of these unsatisfactory storylines at the moment. Eddie leaving didn't ring true, Graham is a completely different character, remember when he was bonkers and funny? Tracy and the Aunties are totally unbelievable as is Becky making the same mistakes over and over. The Maria/Carla/wotshisface story was all a bit odd. Marcus turning up out of the blue was a bit random, although I loved the old characters coming back at Easter.

Something's going badly wrong, they used to be brilliant at slow burning, realistically timed storylines but that's gone completely out of the window.

meditrina · 12/06/2011 08:46

ProfYaffle - I couldn't agree more. The "Sophie going unconvincingly off the rails then returning completely back to normal" storyline was IME the nadir - unconvincing, out of character and pointless.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2011 09:47

The thing with Kevin, Tyrone and the garage hoist was a bit random too (disclaimer I'm a week behind at the moment so it might have been followed up) but surely the Health and Safety people would have been down on them like a ton of bricks?

AFAIK the producers just decided to get rid of Eddie Windass, bizarre.

ProfYaffle · 12/06/2011 09:51

Very true, the whole hoist thing hasn't even been mentioned.

Rainydaze · 12/06/2011 20:25

I'd forgotten about the hoist already! Is it just a way to get Kevin back in the house. Soon he'll have been there for ages and nobody will remember that he was ever kicked out?!

Yes, the changes in characters are odd, but every soap does it I suppose. Does anyone else remember when Roy Cropper first came into it? He was creepy guy, stalking Deidre!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2011 22:37

Yes, I remember creepy Roy. Also Hayley was so shy she couldn't even catch anyone's eye, as soon as she had the op she underwent a complete personality transplant too.

The Windasses were a staggering transformation though, from total scum to soap treasures and without becoming caricatures like Les Battersby and Cilla.

meditrina · 12/06/2011 23:39

I don't mind the the way Hayley became more confident - it was the work of years, and the effects finding acceptance.

It's the sudden (and unconvincing) character changes they've been going in for recently that annoy me so much.

David's epilepsy and Tracey's transplant have both vanished too. I've read though that Gary's PTSD may resurface (won't say more).

ProfYaffle · 13/06/2011 07:09

The 'rough' families always come good in Corrie's warm embrace though don't they? I agree meditrina, it's not characters changing per se but changing too quickly or even changing back again (like Sophie)

kitkatya · 13/06/2011 18:58

You lot remember well!! I cant even recall Roy coming into it!!

It certainly needs livening up though. Becky must be going this week.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/06/2011 19:18

I think it was after Deirdre came out of prison, she went to live in a flat and Roy was across the landing from her. Quite how he came to be running the cafe I have recollection of though. I thought Hayley was quite an overnight transformation personality wise but it was a long time ago.

I haven't quite caught up yet - have just seen John go over the roof of the hospital - surely he could not have walked away from that?

Am also interested to see how they will develop the Gary controlling Issy storyline.

meditrina · 13/06/2011 19:23

John fell from 30ft. There is a 50% death rate from falls of that being, so survival is pretty likely. Ability to get up and walk off is another matter, though...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/06/2011 19:26

My thoughts exactly.

kitkatya · 13/06/2011 19:28

Is he always going to be around somewhere then?

OP posts:
whatkungfuthat · 13/06/2011 20:21

Didn't Roy always carry a shopping bag that had turned out to have loads of money in? I think that is where the money for the cafe came from. Did he buy it when Alma was ill?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/06/2011 20:28

Might have done, Alma was the link between him and Hayley.

ProfYaffle · 14/06/2011 06:34

Hated last night's episodes too. Graham's big speeches towards the end weren't convincing, his 'gunslinger' type stand off with Tina seemed self conscious and clunky.

I went onto digital spy to see if anyone else agreed with me, noticed their Soaps board is dominated by EE and Emmerdale, hardly any buzz about Corrie at all, says it all I think.

meditrina · 14/06/2011 06:51

I can't think of a single story line in which I'm really interested/enjoying at the moment. Given that I watch less in the summer anyhow, by the autumn I'm wondering if I'll want to watch at all.

There are some characters I'd like to see more of, but I'm actually glad they're not being much used at the moment as the current team is wrecking so much. I hope they have some serious behind the scenes changes ASAP.

kitkatya · 14/06/2011 08:17

I wonder where it all went wrong?

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 14/06/2011 08:48

The live episode was brilliant, it's been dreadful since though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/06/2011 09:04

I think the John Stape storyline has been the single biggest factor in the current decline. Right from the start, when he turned up and was supposedly an old flame of Fiz's, that seemed pretty unlikely. The affair with Rosie was fair enough but the kidnapping was bizarre and it has gone from bad to worse ever since. That in combination with Graeme and Xin and the Max storyline has proved to be too many absolutely ridiculous things all happening at once, instead they should be balanced with more lighthearted every day stuff, characters like Norris, Julie, Shaun, Eileen. The return of Dennis is good.

Dev and Sunita, really seem like just fillers now, did they sell the house and the fancy flat and are still nearly bankrupt?
