A thread for the discussion of West Wing - the best tv show ever made!

If you haven't seen all 7 Seasons be aware that this thread may contain spoilers!

OP posts:

I just finished Reading Rob Lowe's autobiography stories I tell my friends

he says he left because all the others got a pay rise bar him and they gave all the meaty Story lines to Josh

Bumperlicioso · 10/06/2011 12:42

Is the autobiography good? He must have been getting paid more than the others in the first place.

Agree about the way Josh speaks though! I'd never go out with him. He is married to the job. They all are. Amazing jobs though. I want to do meaningful work like that.

Anyone else feel the uk political system is really boring compared to (the version we see on tv of) the USA?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 12:48

If the UK political system is really as it's portrayed in The Thick of It, I'm happy Smile

cjbartlett · 10/06/2011 13:02

I got it from the library
tbh I just skim read it to the west wing bits Grin
I wouldn't buy it, the style of writing was a bit annoying

cjbartlett · 10/06/2011 18:19

He also said he thought he should have got a love interest but sarash louise Parker and marlee martin both went to josh and that he never had a whole episode devoted to his character like the others did. Or only one I forget now.

cjbartlett · 10/06/2011 20:14

Also I always thought mrs landingham was killed off because she wabteed to do desperate housewives but no, they just wrote her out Sad

Bumperlicioso · 10/06/2011 20:31

And the actress who played mrs landingham and lily Tomlinson played sisters in desperate housewives. Is the West Wing book good? I love that behind the scenes stuff, but I always wished there was a book which went through each episode and actually explained what was going on, all the nuances and why the characters reacted the way they did.

changeforthebetter · 10/06/2011 20:35

Bumper It only cost pence on Amazon (postage was more, I think). I enjoy watching an episode after looking at the book. I think a full epi by epi analysis would probably consitute someone's PhD

changeforthebetter · 10/06/2011 20:37

.... and would have to start (........... and end) not randomly use punctuation in inconsistent ways>> Blush Toby would hate me, wouldn't he? Grin

cjbartlett · 10/06/2011 20:47

Ooh do you have a link to the book?

Hassled · 10/06/2011 20:52

Every time this thread pops up again I end up wallowing in Youtube/West Wing land for a while - it warms the cockles of my heart. I've just been watching the Game Tie scenes.

Yes - both Mrs L and Debbie F are superb characters - great foils for Bartlet.

flowery · 10/06/2011 20:57

DH and I are going to have a WW-fest on our holiday a week on Monday, I can't wait! I am a big Josh fan...Grin

cjbartlett · 10/06/2011 21:09

I think the Zoe episodes are the best

Acekicker · 10/06/2011 21:43

Also I always thought mrs landingham was killed off because she wabteed to do desperate housewives but no, they just wrote her out

In the Acekicker household we have the expression 'she/he was Mrs Landinghammed' it refers to any character killed of purely as a plot device (Mrs L was sacrificed so they could have the big church scene at the end of Two Catherdals).

Anyone else feel the uk political system is really boring compared to (the version we see on tv of) the USA?

On a predominantly US forum I use, I once asked if the fact my entire knowledge of US politics was pretty much based on 'What I learned watching WW and Daily Show/Colbert Report' and the consensus was that it was fine and probably the best way to get informed about how the political and constitutional systems work over there...!

NormanTebbit · 11/06/2011 09:24

Hah! I asked some American relatives about their political system and they just rolled their eyes and said: "You understand more than we do,,,"

WW did inspire a sort of respect for the US - although it is far far from perfect - they have a written constitution, they protect freedom of speech, they hold it together as a relatively young country.

I do think WW sweeps over more grubby political issues thouigh - watching a documentary on Miami jails and seeing a 14 year old sent to an adult prison, men on remand for years was a bit of a reality check.

changeforthebetter · 11/06/2011 09:48

For WW geeks everywhere! Smile

Bumperlicioso · 11/06/2011 09:59

Just bought one!

Grandhighpoohba · 11/06/2011 10:29

I just got one of these Obviously a cheap second hand one, not the ridiculously priced new one!

NewYorkBellini · 11/06/2011 12:45

ooohhh, I might get a Bartlet for America mug for the kids to give dh for father's day

changeforthebetter · 11/06/2011 14:16

£144 Shock - even I don't love WW that much. I've seen some Barlet is the President and Santos-McGarry mugs but I am too stingy careful with money to justify spending £11 on a very small mug Grin

TinyPawz · 11/06/2011 14:32

Ok you lot, stop linking to books on amazon. I've just ordered both.

Acekicker · 11/06/2011 18:06

Shock at the prices for WW books, however I did spy Studio60 DVDs that won't break the bank, I think we might give that a re-run soon...

Hassled · 11/06/2011 18:15

What do we think of Will? He started off well, didn't he - idealistic and competent and likeable. And even when he started with Bingo Bob he wasn't so bad - although Toby couldn't forgive him. But there comes a point where he's just unlikeable - when was that? Was he too personally ambitious or was he ever really convinced by BB or was it just about beating Josh and Toby?

Grandhighpoohba · 11/06/2011 19:00

I quite liked Will. He saw Donna's potential. He just didn't worship Bartlet, so didn't quite fit in.

I was also Shock when I saw the price of that book. I bought one of the second hand ones for £4.
