Waking the Dead - Predictions for Monday's episode - SPOILER (if it's right!)

Two things I think about tonight's episode and how things might turn out....

I think the wife does not have cancer. I think she might also have Munchausen's and Munchausen's by Proxy. She's very manipulative ('can't you see I've got cancer?' and being shocked that Boyd would speak to her irreverently, etc)

She said the husband Donald never went to hospital or the hospice so he wouldn't have seen the oncologists. There's a slim chance she may have passed the daughter's illness off in this way and actually poisoned her or something. The brother is ill as well I think (didn't he say so in the trailer for tomorrow?) and I also think he's being poisoned.

The other thing that might be waaaaaaaay off the mark but also may not be. Spencer was fiddling with a chain round his neck when he was asking the new girl about her past. It was the same chain as the black nurse had lots of in her car. Shock

what do you think?

I also think the wife may not be ill. there was that scene where Boyd and Grace went to talk to her, and when they brought up something uncomfortable (that Donald may have been haivng an affair, and why hadn't she mentioned it) she did a dying swan impression, and emphasised how ill she was/poor me etc. (although, knowing WtD, that might just be a red herring!)

not so sure about Munchausens by proxy. maybe though.

Don't think the chain is the same - it is a crucifix, but the nurse's ones seemed ot be mahoosive, and Spencer's is just a normal sized one (was busy on laptop at same time as watching, though, so might be wrong about nurse's crucifixes!)

Dysgu · 13/03/2011 23:54

I agree that the wife is not ill. Also the son is getting nose bleeds for no apparent reason so perhaps she is poisoning him.

I also had an idea that the wife's mother, when she opened the door, bore an uncanny resemblance to the creepy old woman. Could they all be related in some way - is she an unmentioned daughter?

The nurse seems to have Munchausen's by proxy - not sure of mercy killing as no mention of babies being particularly ill. She does seem to be a bit OTT on the religious aspects though.

Just have to remember to watch it tomorrow.

Punkatheart · 14/03/2011 05:14

Yep - another vote for a fake cancer - she is scared of Boyd discovering her...

Are the babies being snatched/swapped or given to Christian families?

I too think there is poison involved as the poor little reader's digest boy is bleeding - how much longer before he reads something in his books that give him the answer?

I think Spence has been brought in for a reason - interesting theory about the cross...wasn't it odd how she pulled out a whole load from the back of the car? Can't think they can be poisoned?

Waking the Dead certainly gets the brain cells going - what a shame they are going to kill it...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/03/2011 07:14

I love speculations and predictions!

I also agree re the wife's cancer.
We were glad that weird couple weren't ghosts, for a short while we thought the writers had gone bonkers.

Interesting theory re poisoning

Who was the teen girl with the couple when their baby died in mysterious/ dodgy nurse with boxful of crucifixes circumstances?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 14/03/2011 07:48

My first thought is that the wife did not have cancer.

I also thought that the blonde woman with the crazy couple in the hospital in the first flashback is the cancer wife and those fancy dress people are her parents.

There is definitely something going on with the family, the way that the two children act is very odd.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/03/2011 10:03

I asked that on other thread,Rather.
Was teen girl the wife,do we think?
Agree wife may not be ill, seems to manipulate her illness when it suits.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 14/03/2011 13:20

Donald's flat had lots of books on cancer so his wife was wrong about him not taking an interest in the illness.

That old couple were majorly creepy..

PfftTheMagicDragon · 14/03/2011 15:49

I thought that the wife had developed cancer (supposedly) since the man had disappeared? So the cancer books would be for the daughter, not for her.

I didn't think she was saying that he wasn't interested in the cancer, more that he couldn't accept that she was going to die - that he withdrew because he couldn't believe she wasn't going to get better.

Prunnhilda · 14/03/2011 16:04

We said immediately that there's no way she has cancer and Grace will have sussed it within minutes (Grace is the dog's bollocks at that).

Do you think the teenage girl/cancer wife is the one who poisoned Andrew (the 2-yr-old who died) and the nurse sussed it? The nurse could be a red herring.

No idea about the old couple though. Donald went off with them, and if they were his in-laws, surely he'd have noticed? ANd the kids all saw them...wouldn't they recognise their grandparents? Unless the brusque Yorkshire mother woman is an adoptive mother or something?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 14/03/2011 16:07

I would think something like: The cancer wife has something to hide that her parents (fancy dress couple) know about. They blackmail the banker for money, none of the rest of the family has ever met them so doesn't know who they are.

Probably wrong though.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/03/2011 17:31

I totally heart Grace.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/03/2011 17:52

So who are the wife's 'parents' that were at the house yesterday,if she is old couple's daughter??

Anonymousbird · 14/03/2011 18:15

Haven't read the thread yet, as have this on Sky Plus, but just assuming that Boyd does
LOTS OF SHOUTING, SHOUTING, SHOUTING!!!!!!!!!!

OO, can't wait. Is it any good?!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 14/03/2011 18:32

Yeah, georgina, forgot about that! haha!

Anonymous, boyd ALWAYS does loads of shouting. And eye rolling.

Anonymousbird · 14/03/2011 18:40

Excellent. DH and I love Waking the Dead, but we just snigger like big children at Boyd's shouting!!! Which kind of ruins the atmosphere a bit!

campergirls · 14/03/2011 18:44

and how come the wife has an Irish accent and her mother is no-nonsense Yorkshire?

smokinaces · 14/03/2011 19:08

I too thought the cancer was dubious. The poison thing could be spot on - especially with the boy. BUT, I wonder whether its the elder sister involved, as the trailor saw Boyd knocking on her door and speaking to her?

I too wonder whether the mum is the teen girl in the original opening.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/03/2011 19:09

True!
Am inclined to think wife is was teenage girl, but cannot fathom how she is Irish, and has completely different parents.
Of course, she may have been old couples niece or something, not actual daughter....

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/03/2011 19:14

waves to smokin

I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode!!

smokinaces · 14/03/2011 19:40

Me too Piste! Was going to hit the sack early tonight after a very tiring day, but going to stay up now!

Ooooooooh I just had a thought. What if the mum was the teen girl - who was some kind of Au Pair or Babysitter? And the toddler boy was her first "poisoning"?

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 14/03/2011 19:42

I heart Boyd's shouting

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/03/2011 20:04

That teen girl could easily have been a babysitter/ au pair who could have hurt the baby that dies ( belonging to the couple who scared the beejeesus out of everyone )

she becomes the mum with 'cancer' and starts doing bad things to her own DC
