Shameless series 8- confused over number of episodes. Anyone clarify?

I thought there were supposed to be 22 episodes in this series, however, on channel 4 last night, announcer said that it would be back later in year. Anybody clear this up for me?

Yes - it was supposed to be 22 episodes.I think they are going down the US route and having a break mid season .
