Nothing else on that I can see, and I don't particularly like Nigel Slater.... but so far the show seems very watchable.

I know nothing of his life either so it's a bit of a refreshing piece of tv.

Numberfour · 30/12/2010 21:56

Wait until the dress bit. Even DH appeared to get something in his eye!

bluebump · 30/12/2010 22:01

I've not read the book yet but watching it.

tomhardyismydh · 30/12/2010 22:02

my dd has been watching this whilst I put a cabinet together, so wasnt payinmg much attention untill she (only 4) came to me with teary eyes saying I quite the look of that boy mummy but hes very sad. aww I then started watching and loving it. its very sad.

I love nigels recipies but never too keen on him, he seems to get more and more unhinged as the programmes progess, a bit like nigela, not sure if the production requirements these days.

but think I have far more understanding for his love of food and cooking now.

MavisGrind · 30/12/2010 22:03

So glad it wasn't just me bawling at this..! Just how good was the little Nigel?

bluejeans · 30/12/2010 22:08

DD thought 'big' Nigel looked familiar - just googled and he was Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate factory! Shock

Blatherskite · 30/12/2010 22:12

I so want Lemon Meringue Pie now though....

MollieO · 30/12/2010 22:12

I googled little Nige and it is his first film role. Very impressive.

tomhardyismydh · 30/12/2010 22:13

wow that is very impressive he was awsome

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 30/12/2010 22:14

lovely music choices for background.

ShowOfHands · 30/12/2010 22:14

My 3yr old is still up atm and had a sob at his Mum dying. She just turned round and said 'thank heavens it isn't real'. She's colouring with droopy eyes.

I never cried before having her. This is just Sad.

Freddie Highmore is it, the teen NS? He's very good.

Numberfour · 30/12/2010 22:21

Wasn't expecting that bit - educational for DD!

tomhardyismydh · 30/12/2010 22:25
Sad
tomhardyismydh · 30/12/2010 22:27

ha ha the real nigel slater

lumpsdumps · 30/12/2010 22:29

crying again Sad

MavisGrind · 30/12/2010 22:29

SOH - I was hard as nails before DC (except, inexplicably when it came to tales of Chelsea Pensioners for some reason Hmm) however now I just cry at anything.

5starjo · 30/12/2010 22:29

So nigel slater is gay then? He never speaks about his sexuality.

Thingumy · 30/12/2010 22:30

It's quite true to the book although they left out his sexual abuse.

MavisGrind · 30/12/2010 22:32

Is the book worth a read? Enjoyed the adaptation but assuming, as is usually the case, that it's not as good as the book?

Megletitsnow · 30/12/2010 22:35

I didn't realise he was abused Sad.

I haven't read the book but get the Observer so I read his articles every week. And get Envy at his house and kitchen garden.

moondog · 30/12/2010 22:36

I made a rare exception to my no tv rule and watched this as I adore Nigel Slater and 'Toast' (the book) was charming.

The tv version was fun and touching but not a patch on the book in terms of delicacy.

Numberfour · 30/12/2010 22:36

Who abused him?

OP posts:
moondog · 30/12/2010 22:37

And no, he never really mentions his sexual leanings even in 'Toast' so i was surprised the tv versino spelt it out.
