Eastenders Baby Death Storyline

Once again, no one can live happily ever after Sad

Ronnie's baby James, dies and she puts his body in Kat and Alfies son's crib, and steals their baby boy, Tommy.

Why oh why oh why do scriptwriters insist on portraying bereaved parents - mothers especially - as mad and deranged??? Maybe it's because they can't begin to imagine how awful the death of a child is, but really, whilst we are mad with grief, it is our own child that we want back, not someone else's stolen child. When are scriptwriters ever going to understand that?

Still, it'll be a riveting watch, no doubt.

What've I missed? Any news on today? Did they confirm it's all over as of last night's handover of Tommy - people on twitter seem to think that's it

Newgolddream · 12/01/2011 21:02

Sad news in the paper here in Glasgow today - only 10 days after a Mum threw herself out of a block of flats after finding her baby dead another Mum has done the same, who lost her baby boy to cot death in 2009. The block of flats is close to the other ones to.

She leaves behind another 2 wee boys, my heart goes out to thefamilies.

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 21:09

PotpP - here might be page 41?

NGD - Sad

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 21:11

Nope, sorry, it's the last page Smile

PotPourri · 12/01/2011 21:21

Thanks Mouse - they did Mumsnet proud by the sounds of it. Let's see what happens

NGB - that's dreadful. Those poor families

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 21:50

You're welcome, sorry I did such a pants job of shortening your name! Bit tired today. And yes, they did us VERY proud.

Makes me super proud to be part of something so strong Smile

Newgolddream · 12/01/2011 21:51

So sad isnt it. Heres the link.

www.dailyrecord.co.uk/2011/01/12/distraught-mum-leaps-to-death-after-son-s-cot-death-86908-22843350/

The article states that the poor womans Dad raised £12,500 for the Scottish Cot Death Trust after his grandsons death.

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 22:08

Such an utterly awful thing to happen. But tragically, much more the 'norm' than swapping your dead baby for a live one. Sad

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 22:09

I don't mean 'norm' I think I mean common or expected?

Not doing a great job on explaining myself so will bid you all goodnight. xx

Newgolddream · 12/01/2011 22:09

Youre right Mouseface. Sad

Newgolddream · 12/01/2011 22:09

Its ok, I knew what you meant.Smile

confuddledDOTcom · 12/01/2011 22:12

Thanks everyone. It has been an interesting day.

Mouseface · 13/01/2011 10:32

Morning all Smile

confuddled - is it you that has a crutch? I was thinking about your epic journey home. That must have been hell for you!

I travelled to Brum from Shropshire a few months back and it near killed me. Just glad that we no longer live in Manchester as that would've been even further!

Sorry, if it's not you, ignore me!

How are we all today? Going to watch tonight?

Mouseface · 13/01/2011 10:32

!!!!! - slightly over used today Mouse Grin

OracleInaCoracle · 13/01/2011 10:34

mouse, are you from shropshire?

Mouseface · 13/01/2011 11:12

I'm from Manchester/Cheshire but we live in Shropshire now. Smile

wannaBe · 13/01/2011 18:40

sharon marshall on twitter saying that some of the scenes were cut from the funeral for reasons of sensitivity, but that Ronnie handing the baby to Cat was always part of the storyline and is not the end as will become apparent tonight.

so wtf was all the advert "ronnie makes a shock announcement" etc all about then? Hmm

I haven't watched or complained, but this does seem like a ploy on the part of the bbc to take discussion out of the media (the advert not the handing the baby back, as that was apparently always thus).

I think mn hq have been taken in with the having the meeting etc and it was only ever designed to silence the discussion. And on the whole, they've succeeded, as discussion in the media has practically stopped.

confuddledDOTcom · 13/01/2011 18:50

I do. It's not too bad when you get a seat. The train swapping was fun though - I had 7 trains yesterday!

confuddledDOTcom · 13/01/2011 19:04

We were not taken in. We saw through everything they told us. I'm not sure why you think otherwise. MNHQ is also not heading any campaign against the BBC so if media attention has gone quiet it's because media attention has gone quiet!

Mouseface · 13/01/2011 19:30

confuddled - bless you, I thought 3 trains was hell enough. 7! Shock

thefirstMrsDeVere · 13/01/2011 19:59

Why do you think we were taken in? I am not stuipid enought to think the BBC were going to admit their huge mistake and write in a dream scene to make it all better.

I may have enjoyed my look round the lot but I am not a starstruck teenager.

We asked to be listened to. They listened to us. We asked for an explination and they gave us one. We asked for their methods and research and they told us. We knew they were not being totally upfront. They were cagey about a fair bit and we were well aware of it.

e told them our stories and our views and left them with those thoughts in their heads.

The media is bored with the story, dead children dont stay in the news for long even if they are real.

Mumsnet respondied to a request from their members to support us and they did. I am not sure what esle we could have expected from MN or EE?

Mouseface · 13/01/2011 20:23

Hey MrsDeVere Smile

I hope you are okay today.

'The media is bored with the story, dead children don't stay in the news for long even if they are real.'

Sadly, you are right. Sad
