I get regular emails from FSID after doing some donations. Had this one today:

Popular BBC soap, Eastenders, will shortly feature a cot death story when Ronnie Mitchell?s baby dies on New Year?s Eve.

We have worked with script writers to advise on SIDS risk factors, bereavement and the involvement of health professionals and the police.

The Helpline will operate extended opening hours following the New Year?s Eve programme:

31 December 6pm-10pm
1 January 10am-10pm
2 January 6pm-10pm
3 January 6pm-10pm
4 January 10am ? 6pm (regular Helpline hours resume)

The Helpline number is 0808 802 6868 but you are also welcome to email [email protected] . We will respond to emails from Tuesday 4 January. If you prefer to have contact with other bereaved parents online or if the phonelines are very busy you may like to visit our discussion forum or our

I stopped watching when Ronnie finally discovered that Danielle was her daughter and she died in her arms. That was too much for me.

This next story line is going waayyyy too far and I am disgusted with EE. I am due to have DC2 in February so last thing I want to see and since having DS, I can't watch anything like that.

Awful awful story purely for sensational and shock value.

FFS can't they let Ronnie be happy and have something for once!! And Kat!!

hogfather · 16/12/2010 22:58

trickly??? crikey my typing is awful tonight! I mean tricky!!

BabyValentine · 17/12/2010 21:16

I emailed EE about it too, and didn't receive a reply. I've been wavering over not watching for a while now (depressing, misery-ridden shite, esp. since the Class A drugs thing) so now I am voting with my finger, too.

CheekyLittleStocking · 18/12/2010 00:19

Apparently Kay is in hospital after bleeding heavily and Charlie is left looking after baby, after ''kats baby'' is found in his cot Charlie has to give an identification as kat is too ill and apparently this then leads to charlies demise/exit!

CheekyLittleStocking · 18/12/2010 00:19

kat not Kay

bacon · 18/12/2010 09:01

With Janine poisoning - I find the whole thing too horific for me and def not suitable for children to view. Cant think of anything worse than spending time with all the family (all generations) being put through this!

pawsnclaws · 18/12/2010 11:43

I'm really disgusted at this. One of my sons was stillborn, and while I can see the benefits of public awareness this has to be done incredibly sensitively. This can be done - Corrie dealt with the death of Sarah-Louise's son brilliantly. Making this into a "crazy bereaved parent baby-swap" story is not sensitive.

Christmas is a tough time for many bereaved families. How nice to know that scriptwriters at EE are rubbing their hands together in anticipation at a nice juicy ratings-grabbing story like this. And as for FSID - they should know better.

MABS · 18/12/2010 12:29

Think the re writes are more centred around Palsy Palmer recently having had her RL babe prematurely so she suddenly off work.

youmaynotlikethis · 18/12/2010 12:36

iam a big eastenders fan,i WONT be watching new years

RockinRobinBird · 18/12/2010 12:39

I thought that MABS. But people were saying that at the stage of pg she was at, they wouldn't have given her much of a role anyway in case she had to go off early. Not that I know anything about it so you might be right.

Rosa · 18/12/2010 12:49

So glad I can't get Iplayer as this kind of TV is not entertainment......

MABS · 18/12/2010 13:29

Julie is a friend of mine, she caused the scripwriters quite a few probs apparently with the early arrival :) I don't watch EE at all, so no idea what I am talking about re any storylines.

Mumi · 18/12/2010 13:41

So they're still going ahead with it. Well, that's one New Year's resolution sorted. Any good they did with Stacey's bipolar storyline will be destroyed by this. I complained before and shall be doing so again once it inevitably airs too.

MABS · 18/12/2010 13:45

I don't watch the programme, but this thread sounds like it a truly hideous storyline, reminds me why i have never watched!

RockinRobinBird · 18/12/2010 13:47

Ah well MABS definitely sounds like you know what you're talking about then :) I am just an idle speculator!

MABS · 18/12/2010 13:52

i really don't know anything re the story, only that she caused them a few probs when her waters went a few weeks ago

Kat does realise straightaway that the baby isn't hers. The story of the sawp is over quite quickly.

CrazyChristmasLady · 20/12/2010 20:07

How though Gregs?

She has to go into hospital as soon as she has baby, she isn't there when the swap happens (like above, Charlie is the one looking after him) and there were pictures of Kat and Alfie sobbing at a funeral not long after.

I think they are going to drag this one out. Sad

Mmmaa · 23/12/2010 11:05

I don't think Kat does realise, as I have seen pics of Alfie arranging a funeral...

UnquietDad · 23/12/2010 12:59

When did Samantha Janus become "Samantha Womack"?

I can't make jokes about her lesser-known brother Hugh any more!

She didn't become "Samantha Mantovani" during her last marriage. She's doing it to confuse us.

vmcd28 · 23/12/2010 22:31

It's been reported today that a lot of the gratuitous stuff has been edited out after they showed the two episodes to a test audience.
Still boycotting it, tho. Such an upsetting time of year for so many people as it is

porcamiseria · 26/12/2010 16:00

i love EE but will give this a miss

i also agtee that corrie did sarahs stillbirth very sensitivley

mikeanddor · 02/01/2011 10:00

I too was distraught by the story line on Eastenders. I ask everyone to email Eastenders at: [email protected]
Please do this, let us make our voices heard.
