Just seen a trailer for Christmas on BBC1, but no mention of Dr Who.

Is there going to be a special?

Yes. 6pm Christmas Day.

PigeonPie · 11/12/2010 21:45

Whoo hoo! That's a relief Grin

Thank you

very excited chez corny

UnquietDad · 11/12/2010 21:48

There hasn't been a proper exclusive trailer for it yet, but it was in the Christmas "coming up" compilation the BBC did back in Oct/Nov.

There was a short teaser on

c0rnsillky · 11/12/2010 21:49

UQD what do you think of the new Doctor (being a DR Who specialist)

onimolap · 11/12/2010 21:49

DS (age 10) who lurves DrWho tells me it is going to feature 3 doctors (Ecclestone, Tennant and Smith). If he's right, I can't wait!

c0rnsillky · 11/12/2010 21:51

how could they do that? Is it flashbacks I wonder?

UnquietDad · 11/12/2010 21:52

cornsilk - I like him! I don't think of him as the "new" Doctor any more. He's one of the four for me who seemed hit the role running straight away - the others being Troughton (from the little I have seen), T. Baker and Eccleston.

onimolap - sadly, that's not the case. Not yet, anyway!

UnquietDad · 11/12/2010 21:53

Well, they may do flashbacks, but not "live" reappearances. Christopher Eccleston distances himself from the programme now and it's too soon for David Tennant.

onimolap · 11/12/2010 21:55

Rats!

c0rnsillky · 11/12/2010 21:56

We really like him as well UQD. dS1 was really upset when DT left but he's practically forgotten him now - so fickle Grin
why does CE distance himself from DR Who then?

agree mary
is he too serious an actor?

UnquietDad · 11/12/2010 21:59

I think he saw it as one of many jobs. He's not one of those actors who "is" the role on and off screen as Tom Baker and, to an extent, the latest two are.

c0rnsillky · 11/12/2010 22:02

yes that makes sense - have seen CE in loads of stuff
haven't seen MS in anything else

UnquietDad · 11/12/2010 22:08

Matt Smith hadn't done much TV before DW - but then again nor had Tom Baker. He had done quite a bit of stage work. Matt's best known TV was "Party Animals."

It was called "The Second Coming", on ITV, scripted by Russell T Davies - that was the first big thing they worked on together. Think it is out on DVD...

I don't think he is saying he is "too good to be defined by one role", just that he does parts and moves on... he is quite a private actor too.

for maryz

UnquietDad · 11/12/2010 22:20

It's not terribly obscure really - got very good viewing figures and was much talked about around the time of his becoming the Doctor!

Glad to be of service!
If you like Russell T Davies's take on Who, you can clearly see the roots of it in his two fabulous kids' TV dramas from the 90s, Dark Season and Century Falls.

In tone, very much like Doctor Who would have been if it had been being made in 1990-93.Bit scary for young children but those who can cope with the Sarah Jane Adventures will be OK with them!

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 12/12/2010 00:08

There is a trailer here www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_101119_01 - I'm getting excited now! Grin

southeastastra · 12/12/2010 00:09
