Near Death Experience

Viewers recently voted A Touch of Frost ITV's third favourite programme of all time, so millions will welcome this new feature-length episode. It begins with Frost's trusty sergeant, George Toolan, being hospitalised by a nasty fall. He's investigating the nasty murder of a middle-aged mum, repeatedly stabbed in her bedroom. What's unusual is that the local Catholic priest (Danny Webb from Life Begins) is found at the scene, covered in the victim's blood. Jack, it seems, is no great respecter of the cloth. As the scriptwriter's manual requires, Webb's priest character is tortured, venal and clearly hiding something. But he's not the only repressed male under suspicion - there's a boozy ex-boyfriend and a brother-in-law with an odd habit of quoting scripture. The investigation proceeds at a leisurely pace, until a climactic final chase where Frost shows a good turn of speed.
