I'm guessing this may be a one post thread.

Me me me. And partner. And partner's best friend. LOVE Bob Dylan. Can't wait. Can't believe he's finally spoken!

oliveoil · 22/09/2005 10:24

No

Marina · 22/09/2005 10:26

Two posts now with widely diverging views I'm afraid there tinker
He looks pretty lovely on the front cover of the Radio Times, but I have three words for you missy:

Hearts of Fire

Mind you, I might watch from a historical viewpoint and to double-check that listenign to his music doesn't turn you snide or anything like that

Marina · 22/09/2005 10:27

Great composer, pants performer.

Frieda · 22/09/2005 10:27

And me. Except I'm feeling a bit desparate because we've just moved house and can't get BBC2 at the moment!

If anyone's planning to video it, I'd love to borrow it & will pay postage. Plus a large fee, possibly.

Tinker · 22/09/2005 10:27

Oh goodie. Can't wait! First thing that's been on telly for ages that I'm getting all butterfly tummy about. Feels like when I got unfeasibly excited about On Tour with the Osmonds.

Yes yes Tinker.

He is a legend. And so private, so this will be a treat.

Have you read his recent book, the autobiography? I can't remember the title of it. I really enjoyed it.

Tinker · 22/09/2005 10:28

Hearts of Fire! Was trying to remember the name of that last night. Actually went to see that at the cinema

Not read it anorak. Birthday coming up, may put a request in.

Chronicles, anorak. I'm reading it at the mo. Really enjoying his writing

Tinker · 22/09/2005 10:31

Marina - have seen him 4 times. 2 = ok, 1 = dreadful, sounded like a self-parody but 4 was fantastic, nearly cried when he did 'It's all over now baby blue'

great song.

Iklboo · 22/09/2005 10:44

Should be good. DH & I keep thinking though....if he'd have entered X Factor today (or Rolling Stones/Joe Cocker for that matter) he'd have probably been a..

Simon: "No from me. Louis?"
Louis "It's a no. Sharon?"
Sharon (peeing herself laughing) "Sorry, it's a no"

anorak · 22/09/2005 10:44

Thanks Frieda. Can't wait for the next volume.

Yes, I was very disappointed when I went to see him in what? about 1993ish at Wembley Arena.

He was all over the place, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers who backed him were much better.

But I love his recordings. Play them a lot at home.

Marina · 22/09/2005 10:51

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers very underrated IMO. I think that film is one for the stinky movies thread alas Tinker
I am very envious that you have fellow Dylan buffs to anticipate with whereas no-one is interested in Heimat 3

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:53

gosh one of my friends was wittering on about this yesterday, i see why now. saw him in the 80s at wembley stadium (dreadful venue) he was OK. does he still hang out in crouch end?

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:54

What is Heimat 3, Marina?

Marina · 22/09/2005 10:55

I must admit I hadn't realised what a big deal it is that he is giving a major interview either bundle. I can imagine how I'd feel if it were a big documentary on Brooooce

merrygoround · 22/09/2005 10:56

Bob Dylan was my first "grown up" love musically - heard lay lady lay on the radio when I was about 14 I supppose and had to find it, and then everything else he'd ever done. The prog should be a treat.

Marina · 22/09/2005 11:02

Here you go Scummy:
Edgar Reitz, brill if barking German director, has done three long film cycles based around one rural family, the Simons from Hunsruck, near the Rhine.
First one covered up to the 50s I think and looked mainly at how ordinary Germans were caught up, or not, in WW1, its aftermath and the rise of Nazism;
Second, still my fave, follows one of the new generation of Simons, Hermann, as he leaves his village and his family to become an avant-garde composer in Munich, and looks at how his extended circle of friends responded to the 60s - student unrest, radical politics including terrorism, women's lib etc
Third, now on BBC4, reunites Hermann with his long lost love Clarissa and threads their restoration of a village house in the Hunsruck into the reunification of Germany and changes to European life in the 80s and 90s.
I make it sound very boring but it is so beautifully made and acted, and there is lots of music. It is unsentimental yet full of passion and compassion. I love, love, love the man.

Iklboo · 22/09/2005 11:03

"Bump" loves Tom Petty. We've been playing different music on headphones to baby through my tummy and so far Tom Petty, White Stripes & Kings of Leon seem to get the best 'bop', goes all quiet when we play classical

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 11:05

It sounds wonderful. I will ask partner if they have videos/dvds of it at his library.

Marina · 22/09/2005 11:06

Sorry for hijack.
