To wonder why Katie on X Factor is experiencing such bullying?

Now, I enjoy a bit of trash TV (X Factor etc) but not so much as to ever bother being ripped off phoning in to vote for one contestant over another.

Those of us who don't get our knickers in a twist about Talent Shows/Reality TV/programmes with merchandise tie-ins, wonder why a young woman may be receiving death threats over the fact that she received more votes than a young man...

Is this just extreme bullying? After all, talent can't be quantified.

(Please note, I'm not starting a debate about how lovely/talented one candidate is over another, but about how extreme the reaction is to said candidate's survival...

I must admit I don't understand why she having such a hard time?

ShanahansRevenge · 15/11/2010 21:10

I am also a bit Confused about it...yes she's a bit posh and not THAT talented...but the fact that people ned to be really mean to her because she has pushed herself forward is really wrong if you ask me.

I think it began when shelost it in the last stage of the audition for Cheryl and cried and forgot her words...then got through...people went way over thetop about it.

I didn't like the 'kill katie' thread title the other night

BunnyLebowski · 15/11/2010 21:20

Because she's appearing on a show watched by idiots and idiots like to have a villain to boo.

ShanahansRevenge · 15/11/2010 21:20

No Bigchris...me either! It's awful..she's 24...a nice girl by all accounts...doing nothing but trying to succeed.

NonnoMum · 15/11/2010 21:21

But aren't they all "in it for the fame?" Does that warrant her receiving death threats?

I don´t think she´s being bullied, she´s the one running in a bloody popularity contest! I find her extremely unlikeable. I´m sure there are people who feel the same about me, but i am not putting myself out there inviting people to judge me.

She´s having a hard time because it kind of seems like she´s really unpopular and yet somehow she keeps staying in. It´s weird.

lucykate · 15/11/2010 22:49

she is the pantomime villain. i think the kill katie thread title isn't serious, it's a play on the kill bill movie title isn't it?

LoopyLoops · 15/11/2010 22:52

She's just posh.

That's all.

X Factor is only worth it when we get a really good sob story. Ideally I want an ex-drug addict single mum of seven who is battling cancer and has no arms to win.

This year, all we have is Cher, whose disability is chavism.

Posh people can't win popularity contests.

TinselinaBumSquash · 15/11/2010 22:53

I don't agree with the death threats... nobody deserves thoose. However if your gonna go on a show like that then you have to expect the public to have a reaction to you, she needs that reaction, you either have to very very much loved or hated if your not remebered then your not doing very well are you?!

Oh and just becuase i watch the XFactor for a larf does not mean im an idiot, im actually quite intelligent. Hmm

BunnyLebowski · 15/11/2010 23:41

Nah sorry Tinselina you renounce the right to claim intelligence once you admit to watching and enjoying the annual carnival of mediocrity that is x-factor.

You and your pathetic ilk make being a talentless, deluded talent-vacuum something that the 'contestants' think they're entitled to be. Usually because their granny died or their dad left home.

You and your fellow watchers are the nameless thousands of village idiots who validate Simon Cowell and his fellow experts in cuntery.

It isn't 'watching for a laugh'. The only people who are allowed to laugh are the ones who aren't the competitors or worse....you.

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2010 23:48

oh it's definitely bullying, i think. haven't watched this series tbh, lost the love for it quite early on, but i know more about what a terrible woman katie weasel is than i have any right to.

btw for terrible, read ambitious. same thing these days, i you are a female.

BitOfFun · 15/11/2010 23:49

There are plenty of tv shows I don't bother with- soaps, for example. I wouldn't get all aerated about people who derive some entertainment from them though. Bunny, your post makes you sound very sneery and snobbish, and I didn't have you down as being like that at all Sad

Some of the posters on the Xfactor threads are among the brightest and wittiest posters on mumsnet, from what I have seen.

DinahRod · 15/11/2010 23:50

Modern bear-baiting

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2010 23:53

bread and circuses, innit, dinah?

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/11/2010 23:54

Crikey bunny. That's rather snooty. Are you Brian Sewell?

Certainly can't dismiss all those who watch the X factor as being a bit fick. The X factor threads on here are full of witty and intelligent posters.

I can't understand what is wrong with the girl, and why she inspires such hatred.

LadyFnarFnar · 15/11/2010 23:57

I don't watch it but my sister said that dermot Whatchamacallhim apparently called her a cunt live on air Shock

Unwind · 15/11/2010 23:59

Never watched it, but was utterly creeped out when that clip of Dermot O'Leary calling her a cunt went viral.

People I had respected were so delighted with it.

Imagine him calling Cowell a cunt?

Unwind · 16/11/2010 00:01

here it is:

lucykate · 16/11/2010 00:07

he said 'good luck hun'. it just sounded like cunt. like it sounded like cheryl farted in saturday's show, it wasn't a fart, it was her chair creaking. allegedly.

not sure which is worse though, calling someone 'hun' or 'cunt' Wink

CheeseandGherkins · 16/11/2010 00:07

He didn't say cunt he said good luck hun, it's just the way the words sounded together.

Maybe people don't like her too because of all the fakeness and the fact she had a contract already in America which the x-factor bought out, people in the show aren't supposed to already have contracts.

I don't think it's anything to do with being ambitious, she's just not liked, same as a lot of people in the public eye. Plus all the publicity she's courted and apparent lies she told about bedding another contestant who came out (I believe on his own twitter page but don't quote me on that) as saying it was all lies and that she was using him to gain likeability.

BunnyLebowski · 16/11/2010 00:09

I stand by my post BoF. Sorry if that changes your opinion of me.

I don't watch soaps either fwiw but x-factor and what it represents in terms of the total dumbing down of light entertainment is a new low in british tv..

It's an audience of IQ-challenged goons flailing about trying to thwack their seal-like, un-coordinated paws in approval of some vocally-incontinent warbler who equates volume with talent, whilst at the same time pissing their pants at the excitement of being in the same room as the nation's favourite immigrant whacking national treasure who.....gosh darnit....once scrubbed up with the 100 grand makeover happens to be pretty (and therefore innocent).

It's a bag o' shite.

BitOfFun · 16/11/2010 00:13

But you are assuming that people are watching it absolutely uncritically. Most of the people I know who watch it comment on and joke about its cynicism constantly.

lucykate · 16/11/2010 00:15

this is the first year i've ever watched it
