Det Supt Boyd, owner of the best beard on TV, and his intense cold case squad, return for a new series. This first story, which ends tomorrow, is a typically multi-layered mystery about the killings of a Heathrow Airport baggage handler, found mutilated in a water tower, and a man whose mummified body is in the hold of a decommissioned jumbo. Boyd himself (Trevor Eve) is even more twitchy and distracted than ever - it seems he's still tormented by the murder of young Mel in the last series. Poor psychological profiler Grace (Sue Johnston) tries to keep him from turning into a total sociopath. Watch for a strangely brief guest appearance by Little Britain's David Walliams, in a straight role as a shadowy cop. It's all very odd...

They repeated the end of last series a couple of weeks back - and the moment when Mel gets checked off the roof STILL made me yell "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the teevee, even though I knew it was coming...

It's a bit sad to get so devestated at fictional telly progs really. I did it at Spooks alot when they wrote out the three main characters {grrr}. Had to grudgingly admit the new series was just as good though. Oops - I've started on Spooks. Off to watch WTD now...

Didn't watch this, have been hooked in by Heimat 3 on the other side and know they repeat Waking the Dead. Could someone please tell me what has happened to Frankie/Holly Aird, though? Did they think we wouldn't notice a different pathologist with fringe? This isn't Balamory
