The first story - a two-parter - in a new series of BBC1's spy drama makes for uncomfortable viewing in many ways. It's primarily a good, taut and often exciting thriller, with lots of shocks and surprises. But the discomfort lies in its subject - terrorist bombings in London. Of course, the programme was made well before the atrocities of 7 July, though that doesn't make a lot of difference - it's still hard to watch images of casualties being led to ambulances and police clearing railway stations. The killers belong to a group that believes human life is out of control and needs to be "culled". They plant a bomb in a busy London street and promise to set off more devices at ten-hourly intervals until their imprisoned leader is released. The story concludes tomorrow.
