Can anyone remind me of how they left Eastenders?

I cannot remember for the life of me the circumstances surrounding their departure from Albert Square Have just seen the advert for their return and feel that knowing how they left would greatly enhance my future viewing

I think they went off into the sun to go to America but I can't remember 100% now!

They went off to drive across the US in a clapped out car.

How I wish they would stay there...

So they left on good terms with one another?

I'm neither here nor there about them coming back TBH - I think the BBC are trying to match the build-up from when Ricky and Bianca came back

To be fair to Jessie Wallace, I watched the Coronation Street thing (you know, on BBC4 where it was a show about the creation of it) and I thought Jessie Wallace was quite good in it.
