Jesus Christ

This is horrible

Oh my. It is indescribable.

FrameyMcFrame · 10/08/2010 23:42

I'm going to have nightmares about this.
What is the story with the sister though?
Why did they run away together? She was a Mum of two apparently...

sharbie · 10/08/2010 23:44

you just wouldn't believe this if it was fiction would you? bizarre

brassick · 10/08/2010 23:45

Caught it by chance-so bizarre. Had to record the last 1/2 hr, so don't know the end of the story yet, willcatch up with it tomorrow.

Seeing them run out into the traffic & being hit was horrific.

TheCrackFox · 10/08/2010 23:56

none of it made any real sense. With her refusal to talk we will never understand why she killed that poor man.

frostyfingers · 11/08/2010 09:02

It was the weirdest thing I have ever seen, I was left completely stunned by it. God knows what was going on with them, but I do wonder why the other sister (Ursula) was never questioned or assessed - surely if she was they would have had more idea of what was going on.

I felt so sorry for those police officers and drivers on the m'way, and then the brothers and family of the man killed - how devastating and how awful not to have any answers.

A really unsatisfactory outcome for all involved I would think.

LadyBlaBlah · 11/08/2010 09:48

Yes, slept on it and it remains the strangest thing I have seen on tv for a long time.

She was like the bionic woman - she survived being hit by cars at full speed on the motorway twice, hitting herself on the head with a lump hammer then jumping off a 40ft bridge into traffic.

How very very very very very very odd and disturbing.

OP posts:
JaceyBee · 11/08/2010 12:01

I know. I couldn't sleep afterwards, it made me feel really unsettled. I said to dh it looked like folie a deux at the motorway scene at the beginning. It's really a fascinating syndrome.

Can't believe they weren't more rigourously assessed - I've never seen people look/sound more psychotic.

The brothers of the man that died were so full of dignity and empathy though, not full of vengeful wrath which would be understandable but just feeling very let down by the professionals involved and asking for answers which sadly they'll probably never get.

That said, it is really difficult to determine risk sometimes, people can spiral downhill so quickly. The trust I work for was recently featured on a bbc2 programme called 'why did you kill my dad?'. Needless to say we didn't come off too well. We all make wrong decisions sometimes but unfortunately in these cases those decisions result in tragedies.

frostyfingers · 11/08/2010 17:57

You have to remember that everyone has such individual experiences, and what you see in a TV programme is never really the full picture. I steer as clear as possible of our local hospital having had 2 bad experiences there, but other people locally can't praise it enough....

Ho hum, that look on her face as she ran back into the road (red jersey one) still haunts me.

Kaloki · 11/08/2010 18:14

What programme was this? Going by the comments here I think I've seen a clip of those two women online a while ago.

JaceyBee · 11/08/2010 18:45

Was called 'Madness in the Fast Lane'. Will be on the iplayer now. The clips have been on youtube for ages and the motorway footage was shown on motorway cops or one of those type shows before.

grapeandlemon · 11/08/2010 20:52

Just awfully Sad and bizarre the whole thing. I must admit when I saw the footage of the sister being detained in prison I said to dh she looks like someone in a phase of deep mania. The police said she just seemed a bit odd but she looked very, very ill to me.

That poor poor man all he did was offer help. Tragic.

SlartyBartFast · 12/08/2010 00:05

she looked nutty in the police cell didnt she but it was a um.. remake ?.... and they did have 4 medical professionals to see her i heard. although she was medicated.

i missed the beginning.
did anyone find out what was in the suitcases?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/08/2010 00:55

The cell footage wasn't a remake slarty.

I remember this being on the news when it happened. Totally shocking.

grapeandlemon · 12/08/2010 11:48

It wasn't a remake it was real footage

BigBadMummy · 12/08/2010 11:54

Christ, I remember seeing that footage on Motorway Cops or something last year. Was awful at the time.

I had no idea it developed into this.

Truly shocking.

TwoIfBySea · 12/08/2010 22:25

I can remember seeing the initial footage, of them jumping out in front of the traffic, a couple of years ago on some police programme. Horrible then and horrible now but I wish the programme had actually found out why as that is why I watched it. I couldn't understand why they did it and it is even more baffling when the sisters didn't have a history of mental illness and were not on any substances (which is what I had wondered at the time.)

Feel so sorry for the family of the murdered man.

bathbuns · 13/08/2010 16:36

I just watched this today and it was so very strange. I felt so very sorry for the people who were with them when they tried throwing themselves in front of the traffic and of the relatives of the murdered man. I just couldn't believe Sabina hadn't been sectioned on being taken to hospital the first time, for an assessment. And I wished they had updated more about Ursula other than saying she went back to America.

DuelingFanjo · 13/08/2010 16:41

I found it all very odd. That they never seem to have questioned the sister who now lives back in America or the partner of the sister who lived in Cork.

The one sister was obviously deeply disturbed, shouting out on the motorway that someone would steal her organs etc.

Much of the reconstruction footage was awful I thought.

mummylin2495 · 13/08/2010 16:46

Anyone got a link ?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/08/2010 17:26

on iplayer

upahill · 13/08/2010 17:32

Dh and I watched this and we couldn't believe it. I said if this had been an episode of csi or something we would have said the script writer was having a shit day. It was so unbelievable!
I couldn't believe that after the killing of the mans she walked down the street hitting her head with a hammer with roof slate in her pocket!

We didn't recall this incident happening and it was truly awful watching how the events unfolded.

MuffinToptheMule · 13/08/2010 19:29

A truly shocking situation. I feel so sorry for all the people involved.
I can't understand so much of it. Why was she let out? How did she survive? Why wasn't the sister questioned? Why the husband wasn't concerned that his wife had left? And most of all, will they do it again?

mummylin2495 · 13/08/2010 22:33

oh my god ,that is awful,i cant believe they were not both killed.Poor man who was stabbed.

Kaloki · 15/08/2010 17:41

Just watched that. I'd have thought that after the motorway incident she completely fitted the description of "danger to self and public" and should have been sectioned?

The other thing is, I have depression - some days I am normal, some days I am not. Mental illness isn't the most consistent thing. It's possible to be "mad" one day and sane the next - but still not be mentally healthy. So that strikes me as a on odd way to treat it.
