I think so, yes. So all she's done is cut the waiting time for him, in essence.

booyhoo · 13/07/2010 21:58

oh, maybe you are right maureen. i didn't realise that.

Well done Dean!

Monty100 · 13/07/2010 22:00

I'm not sure that you would get a veneer on nhs tbh, but I don't know.

So so pleased he got that job.

MaureenMLove · 13/07/2010 22:03

I'm not 100% sure, but I do know that the first year the tax credits were introduced, they mucked ours up big time and we ended up, between us only working for about 14 hours a week and we received NHS exception cards!! (we didn't use them, btw, we sent them straight back!)

Anyway, well done that man! Good for them. They seemed like a nice couple!

booyhoo · 13/07/2010 22:03

i am pleased he got the job, i am but tbh i think it would have served them both better in the longrun if they had have looked for the jobs themselves and set up the interviews with her guidance rather than her finding the jobs and arranging interviews. what happens if that job doesn't last and he has no experience of jobhunting or setting up interviews. i think she should have let them have that experience themselves if even just to build up their confidence in doing it.

I really enjoyed it - loved her in the last one. I think it was based in Doncaster or Hull.

ivykaty44 · 13/07/2010 22:05

bright house charge 30% - legit daylight robbery

giraffesCanDanceInTheSun · 13/07/2010 22:33

Watching on plus one. Good to see how positive he was about the bin thing, lots of people would think they were above that.

Alambil · 13/07/2010 22:41

is it going to be on 4OD? I missed it

giraffesCanDanceInTheSun · 13/07/2010 23:01

Oh dear it made me cry at the end

I want to watch the undercorver boss one.

ShadeofViolet · 14/07/2010 07:40

It reminded me of being a child - we have the Greenwood's man visit every Monday. Infact he still visits my Mum and its been 20 years (she keeps borrowing more). I wish she would stop lending from him but she wont listen. I even gave her the money to pay him off once and for all and make a clean break but she spent my money and loaned more from him.

candyfluff · 14/07/2010 17:13

i was so shocked at how little food they have in the house

booyhoo · 14/07/2010 19:46

me too candy. i couldn't see what they were going to give the little girl for breakfast, let alone their guest and themselves.

Well I liked it. I am sure this programme was aimed at the people who don't have degrees, are not academic and have found themselves on the scrapheap. I found it had a real feel good factor going on as well. I was certain the girl would get the job and the boy wouldn't. The very fact that both of them would like to get into trades (manual rather than professional) was fab.

I love Hayley. Forget the whole professional psychology malarky and just get down to straight talking....and it worked. If that programme gave one person who thought they were on the heap a bit of enthusiasm, then well done Channel 4.

Strawbezza · 15/07/2010 10:58

Really enjoyed this programme. Great to see the change in attitude of Dean, from blaming the immigrants to loving his new job.

The fairy jobmother herself was ace. Didn't pull any punches, told the truth, made them realise they CAN break the cycle and get out of "the system" - she used that phrase a lot!

Will be watching the rest of this series!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/07/2010 11:34

interesting to watch

obv they were going to find jobs (or have jobs found for them) as otherwise be no point to the programme iyswim

was at lack of food in house

agree attitiude and appearence makes all the difference in interviews

will many unemployed people now want to get off their butts and work? unlikely tbh

i think the government should pay more working tax credits IF people go out to work

far easier to stay on benifits, esp if getting £1300 a month thats my salary!!

then to try and find a job for nmw, which tbh is crap and no one can really survive on that

look forward to next episode

MerlotPixie · 21/07/2010 13:44

Didn't see first episode. Saw last night's though, the Phillips family.

Most interesting, and lots of ishoos. The fairy job mother has to take on the whole situation and help the family deal with all sorts of problems. It seems the consequence of this disfunctional family was that none of them had a job.

The son was 20 years old and had never had a job. The government often makes noises about cracking down and withdrawing benefit but it seems this never happens.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/07/2010 13:50

I liked the daughter, Tara. Thought she was lovely and really just needed some encouragement. Thought the mother was vile though.

MerlotPixie · 21/07/2010 13:52

yes mother was awful. she looked like a teddy boy I thought. vair strange...

bathbuns · 24/07/2010 11:07

I was really pleased for the two children. The son's face was like a ten year olds when he did the boxing. You could tell he had never had any encouragement. And it was lovely to see how proud Tara was when she got the job.

I just found it so sad because I'm sure there are lots of people living like that - not managing with basic hygiene or a daily routine, and doing nothing but smoking or eating. I'm sure masses could do with someone like Hayley coming in and just putting some basic rules in and getting them to have some pride in themselves. The job hunt bit is important but if you get the basic things in place then everything else will happen too.
