DD 14 years old wants to go to underage festival

My 14 year old dd wants to go to a underage festival with a couple of friends, i'm a little worried about her going. I havent said yes yet, shes waiting for her friends parents to decide if their kids can go. If they say yes then my dd will go on at me till I say yes as well. She showed me the website, it seems ok but i'm still worried. Parents are only allowed to drop their kids off but not go through the gates and they have to show id, its for 14-18. Would other parents let their kids go.

i had the same level of apprehension as you when dd wanted to go to a U18s disco around Christmas. I came on MN wringing my hands and worrying about drink/drugs/predatory boys.

I know it's not the same as the festival, but the advice given to me then was to let her go. Loads of people said that most of the kids will be 14/15 - any 17/18 year olds would not be seen dead at an underage gig - they will be sneaking into teh adult ones!

Also, people said that the staff are really vigilant re drink and drugs - I found this to be true, all bags were searched on entry at dd's disco, and there were loads of security staff everywhere.

So I would say let her go - dd was really pleased that I trusted her enough to go, and was really mature. She had a nice time as well.

I'd be terrified that my daughter would meet some boys like those out of The Inbetweeners. Isn't there an episode where they deliberately go to an underage disco?

Omg, unquietdad you def made my mind up, shes not going (joking). I tried to look at it from her point of view and remember when i wanted to go places when i was a teen and wasnt allowed. I do trust her and her friends and they do search bags etc but i keep thinking all sorts will happen. It is in a big park in the middle of London so i suppose i could sit in another area of the park.

My teenagers have been to the Underage Festival in Victoria Park for the past two years - it is really well organised and security is really tight.

They had a really good time - let her go!

(There were quite a few parents waiting in the park local pub so you won't stick out like a sore thumb if you decide to hang around!)

I asked my 16 year old daughter who said she would not been seen dead at an underage festival nor would any of her friend; I assume that's because there wouldn't be any booze/older boys etc. & therefore deeply 'uncool'. As this is probably the case I would say it's safe to let her go!

It will probably be full of 12 and 13 year olds -I wouldn't worry at all. DD2(17) will be camping at the v festival this year for the second time so she wouldn't be bothered with an underage one.

Underage festival is rather good acutally. Excellent range of bands normally. I've never been young enough to get in, which made me cross as I lived v close for a long time.

No over 18s are allowed in. No booze on sale and there are bag searches on the way in. Would far rather my DD was there than at a local teenage disco. But she's only 3, so may have changed my mind by then!

I know this probably just me, but it ought to have a slightly less dodgy name.

"Underage" is usually followed by "sex" or "drinking", isn't it? Has illicit connotations.

MY DS 14 has won two tickets for the itunes festival at the camden roundhouse. He can go but DH is picking taking him and picking up.

Let them go, you only live life once. Just give them guidelines to follow.

What are you worried about? It's normal for kids to drink and realistically they've drunk/been around alchohol atleast a couple of times now. It's not a skins party they're not all gonna come back and suddenly think they're in skins. realistically the worst they're gonna do is neck on with someone
