Why do teenage girls feel the need to alter themselves so much and not just be happy with themselves naturally? My 14 yr old daughter seems addicted to colouring her normally fairish hair dark, almost black, wears about three gallons of mascara, has clip on hair extensions that have now actually has a bald patch where the clips go. I?m so shocked as she doesn?t seem to care. I?ve told her to not use them as she doesn?t need them but will she listen? I feel like a right old nag sometimes, telling her not to wear so much make up etc. It breaks my heart especially when I look at her pictures when she was younger. Do other mums feel the same??

She's expressing her individualism, and finding her own look.

There's absolutely nothing, imo, that you should or can do about it, and you're going to have to bit your lip tbh.
