How did your ds's voice break?

Ds is 12 (13 in October) and his voice is getting noticably deeper. It's not gone from high to low suddenly nor has he gone through the wobbly up and down thing, he just seems to be gradually getting deeper and deeper. Can it happen that way or is there something more dramatic round the corner?!

DS's voice just got deeper (I'd hear him talking in another room and wonder who the hell was in the house!). It would occasionally come out a bit growly or squeaky but not very often, I had the misfortune to hear him sing when I was standing next to him in church and it wasn't great. He's 13 and a half now and everything has settled down now (and his singing is ok again now)

My son's voice broke like that, a few wobbles when he got very stressed or excited.
15 1/2 now and sings baritone.

My eldest DS is now 15 and his voice broke about a year ago. It just gradually started to get deeper and more mellow. I spoke to him on the phone not long after this process started, and was absolutely convinced it was my brother pretending to be my DS!
My youngest DS is 14 and still has a high voice. No real signs of it breaking just yet.

DS's broke when he was 12., It was when DD was away for a week on a school trip and when she got back it was low. He never really had the wobbly up and down but his year 6 teacher had commented a year before that she had thought it had started going because he would occassionally croak.

In lots of teenage boys the first sign is when people start to mistake them for their mothers on the phone. Their voices have lowered almost imperceptably to the level of an adult woman, but then carry on getting lower either smoothly or with a bit of a squeaky wobble - either being normal.

My DS's have had differing experiences. DS1 just got gradually deeper, but DS2 (14) is still covering 2 octaves and croaking randomly!! luckily he laughs about it, it usually only happens when he is excited about something, and is lessening now after about four or five months of it. He has a much deeper voice than DS1, quite a few of his teachers comment on it!

My experience is the same as maryz - I couldn't actually tell you when DS1's voice broke as it seemed to happen pretty much overnight though it must have gone deeper gradually. We never had a squeaky moment and I never though "gosh, his voice his breaking".

my ds (14 next month) also didn't go through the squeaky stage - noticed one day that his friend had a high pitched voice and ds didn't! He still has a few friends with (relatively) high pitched voices.

I wish the rest of his teenage-erness (is there such a word?) was as smooth and unnoticeable!

My older son was 13 in year 8 whewn his voice changed. He has a croaky throat for a few days and i asked him if it hurt. .he said no and its stayed croaky and bit deeper, and never went back up. . .He is 22 now and sounds like a man !!! (well of course, i hear you say !!) lol
